what's your point?
South-American Spanish and Castilian Spanish are nearly similar, not to mention the "sound" of the language, which is even more similar.

What you call south american spanish is precisely castilian.
It's hard to explain. The Castilian crown conquered what its now considered the Spanish America, they brougth with them the language. And here we speak "castellano" (castilian), spanish it's just a way to name castilian as the language of Spain without considering other languages like Basque, Galician, Catalan, etc.
If you can read it then you can pronounce it too!
I can't say which is the bet because I don't think I am objective as I find Greek the best language overall! Italian is nice too!
But I know that I don't like arabic, german, asian (they sound funny though) and french (really:P)!

Depends on how you look at things.
You can either divide Spanish into Castilian, Valenciano, Catalan, Galician, ...
Or one can only look at the "Official Spanish", which is Castilian. Looking at Castilian, there are differences between the Castilian spoken in Spain and South-America.
I didn't know what you were aiming for, but now I realise you were aiming for that last one :)

What im trying to say is that when you hear someone speaking spanish, he is really speaking the language spoken in Castilla. When you hear a Latin American speak, he is speaking castilian, not catalan, galician or valenciano. Or at least he is speaking a latin american modified castilian, but not a latin american modified catalan, galician, etc...
Its hard to explain... lol.

hehe, it's not hard to explain, and I understand perfectly :-)
I was just pointing out the difference between Castellano in Spain and Castellano in South-America. You guys for example can't say "coger el tren", while in Spain they can either "tomar el tren" or "coger el tren" :-)

In Perú & Ecuador you can say "coger" without problem, in Argentina and Uruguay people will laugh a lot :D
