hmmm, not entirely correct. Depends on how you define original.
Switzerland exists as a federal nation since 1291. back to that time, 3 cantons were part of it (Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden). rätoromanche isn't spoken in any of these cantons...

Yep, Piemontese is the right word for it. Actually every Italian region has its dialect, whilst the official Italian language is derived from the dialect of Tuscany some centuries ago, the language used by Dante in the "Divina Commedia" just to make it clear.

However , in Tuscany we still speak with an accent and with pronunciation different from the rest of italy, and I love it :) ....also we use more "ancient" words compared to other regions: I am from Tuscany but I teach in a school in Liguria and pupils often don't know the words I use and challenge me stating that I use words athat are not italian, but when we chech di dictionary I always win the challenge :)

thanks for closer specification... During my studies in elementary schools we learned that rätoromanche is an aboriginal Swiss language (older than modern languages) but there are also 3 another languages which are used mostly nowadays (German, French, Italian). Maybe there is a mistake in our geography books. You have to know it better than me :)

Well rätoromanche has its roots in the latin language, the point is it has not evolved since then. But the germanic languages are way older but they evolved and the dialects spoken 2000 years ago are not spoken anymore.
