Anyone can explain, what means "Resident monkey"? I have to translate a text about Indonesia and volcanoes, and there is a phrase "even the resident monkeys descended...".

I would say that it means that even the monkeys which lived there since hundred of years (residents) fled because of the volcano breakout or smth.
