Yes, you are right.
Winds around the center of a cyclone rotate counterclockwise on the northern hemisphere and clockwise on the southern hemisphere. The same effect occurs with the water when it downs the plughole.
This is the Coriolis effect is caused by the Coriolis force due Earth's rotation.

the water went down the drain about 2 seconds after i lifted the plug so could easily have been mistaken, damn fast draining plughole!

The effect do exist but you can't see it in a plughole. Therefore it's way to small.

It doesn't make sense i can let the water goes clockwise or even counterclockwise. It depends on how equal your bath is and how you tear away the black thing

No, it's dependent on how the earth rotates compared to your plughole. You can only change the direction when you pull out the plug when you made the water rotate in the opposite direction and have the bath filled. Otherwise the rotation force is too strong.
