I wouldn't say a calibra or celica are big... do they even get 126ps? (not on all versions at least)

Whats wrong with a nice fast volvo? Stylish ride in a C70 T5 for just a little above 5000 euro....

RX7 isn't expensive if you get a nice eighties model. No road tax either (at least here)

Small cars I mean at size.
Calibra have minimum 126PS :) Celica don't but there is Toyota Celica from 2000,2001,2002 at a price around of ~5000euros,those cars are really great at around of 143 PS .

Calibra is total junk and minimum is 115PS.
Mr2 2000-model on the other hand is a great youngster car, with exxelent roadholding and nippy engine when pushing hard.
Actually I myself even prefer 90-98model, looks more stylish and sporty, with a turbo engine gives a nice smile, though very rare in europe with turbo. Normally 156HP or 175HP.
The car with Mid engine rear wheel drive can be spmetimes surprise you in critical situations when pushing hard. It needs skills. But skills you get with experience:)

Once I saw a beautiful Golf VR6 in e-bay, all tunned up by his owner, really amazing, only 2800 dollars, incredible cheap, that car has more than the horse power you want, I would have bought it, but you can't import used cars to argentina, only new ones and be an official vendor. I love VR6 and R32.

Why you don't like Calibra ?:)
Untill the moment that I have driven a Calibra I disliked Opel,and I loved BMW,I wanted just BMW but for the first time I drive a Calibra I felt very good.I don't know what sensations MR2 or Celica or I don't know gives you but Calibra is a great car in my opinion.I have my driver license for a short time,from March this year and I have not driven much sport cars just cars like:VW Golf V,VW Polo,VW Golf IV,Skoda Superb,Dacia 1310(Romanian national car),Skoda Fabia,BMW 318 '94,BMW 318 2007,Audi A4 2006,that Calibra and Skoda Octavia 2000(my actually car) but from those cars I liked the most Opel Calibra.
About minimum PS you're right,I'm sorry.I have found meanville with 115 PS :P

Here in western Europe the Calibra has a bit dubious reputation. This holds for more the cars you mention, by the way :).

I drive an 323 Astina myself, by the way. If I could get my hands on a 1.8 GT from '90 I'd get it immediately. Why? It is a very practical and fast car(133PS), with great handling and shouldn't be more than around 1000eur...

If I could get a 90s 300ZX once i'd go for it as well. Love the looks of the interior and exterior.

But to be honest, my next car will probably be a mid sized lease car like a mazda 3 1.6 citd.

Honestly,I don't like none of those cars :) Everyone of us has diferent tastes for cars.
For exemple I love Opel Calibra and others hates Calibra :P
