I agree its "useless" as it will change nothing. But visually I find it appealing.

The graphics are not the most important thing for me too, but the ref's give a good feeling for the game, as the green grass, the corner flags, the goals. You know. Sokker could have graphics like Pong or Pac Man and still be the same. But some decoration is always welcome.
Cheerleaders would be funny too. Maybe before the match starts. Better than that ball falling over the midline from nowhere. Maybe if a bikini cheerleader would carry it to the midfield would be better

Great idea, but strictly aesthetical.
I think there could be added the skill's and personality for each referee:
1 - Severe, if he tends to use often yellow and red cards
2 - Skilled or not, so he tends to make easily mistakes about decisions on offside situations.
And this could be also improved much more, adding player personality if they tend to protest with referee (and these last could be more ore less tolerable to this) or if they tend to become more aggressive when the match becomes difficult (when in score disadvantage)...
...and more improved again, adding specific orders to each player, about how much tending to risk fouls when tackling, improving the chance to steal the ball...
...AS ACTUALLY JUST HAPPENS IN OTHER SOCCER MANAGEMENT BROWSER GAMES...EASILY!!!!!!

Ref/Cards:
The ref should run toward the player that gets a card and when the card is risen there should come a name above the card or the player that gets the card. Even the player should give little exprecions (Like when it's an cup final or sth and a player gets a red card he acts like holding his head and the crowd is going mad bro) :D .
