Subject: New league structure
- 1
At the moment there are 289 registered users in the Netherlands. This would fit in 37 leagues with only 7 bot teams or, in other words, in a 1, 4, 16, 16 league structure with a total of 7 bot teams. At the moment the structure is 1, 4, 16, 64 which means that there are 384 more bot teams in our leagues than necessary. This means that 57,5% of all teams in the Netherlands are bot teams.
My proposal is to trim down the structure to 1,4,16,16. At the third level, 16 teams will relegate directly against the 16 champions of the fourth level and 16 teams will play a qualification match against the teams that finished second. I know that half or quarter divisions don't pose any problems at all, because this is how Sokker used to be during its early days of expansion.
A problem with such a structure is that it's quite inflexible. The second part of the idea is that there will be a qualifying division below the lowest division. After signing up, new teams will play in the qualifying division where they will be randomly matched against other teams in the qualifying division, but, if possible, they will not play against the same opponent two weeks in a row. The qualifying division will be filled up with some bots (7 max) to make it more interesting for new players.
Whenever a club in the lowest regular level loses ownership, the team will be removed from the division structure and get replaced by the team with the most points in the qualifying division. This team will receive half of the points from the team it replaced. If there are no human teams in the qualifying division or the number one team is a bot, the team that lost ownership loses half of its points and will keep playing in the division.
Whenever a team in a higher division loses ownership, the team will lose half of its points and keep playing in the competition untill the end of the season.
Teams without owners and bots will aggregate points at only half the rate normal teams do. A victory will only result inn 1,5 points and a draw in only half a point. This way botteams do not compete with humans without affecting the competition between humans.
At the end of the season, all teams without owners that are not bots will be replaced with newly generated bots. All teams without owners in higher division will directly relegate to the lowest division while adding one spot for direct promotion for every division they go through. Another alternative is to decrease the number of spots for direct relegation for every division they pass through.
If necessary, the lower league will get expanded at the end of the season with 4, 8, 12 or more competitions. Whenever leagues are added, the number of promotion games for teams in secon place will be decreased untill the number of competition in the lowest division is 2, 3 or 4 times the number of competitions in the league above at which point all number 2 teams are eligible for a qualification game again.
