I think it might be usefull to have 8 possible players on the bench.
Certainly also for NT's.
You now can have only 5 players on the bench. If you cover every type, GK, DEF, MID and ATT, you only have 1 sub place left.
Say, you have an extra MID and you sub a striker in the 60'th minute and his substitute got injured, you have no ATT left to fall back to and he will be substituted for the another type of player.
With 8 places you can have 1x GK, 2x DEF, 2x MID, 2x ATT + 1 extra sub, which might be handy if you know you would f.e. substitute a mid at '45.
This also prevents trainees to enter the pitch on a non-training position, or, in the future, in the wrong training position...
