Subject: GK kicks ball from where he gathers it

Can this please be fixed? I have never seen a GK in real life gather a ball on the corner of the box, run back to goal, then run back to the corner and kick the ball. I don't know why it was implemented that way, but I'd really like to see the GK's movement improved.

Maybe he could walk towards the top of the box while making up his mind on where to boot it. And maybe he could throw it to defenders if they're way out in the open.

I'd put it right at the top of the list of things to implement if it were my choice, 'cos it's one of the really obvious issues. :)

O.o are you sure you want the ball thrown to a defender?

He'd just kick it out of bounds=p

my defs have more passing than my gk, so it would be nice :)

Well. It look a bit odd, but no real importance, because no one loose by having it ;-) So there is several things higher in the priority list, I suppouse.

Incorrect.

Last season I won a game because the opponent's goalie ran out to where he had gathered the ball, booted it to the middle and my midfielder lobbed the ball into the open net. It has lost people games.

I only raise the issue because I'm worried it will cost people more games or more specifically that it will cost me games! Especially now that the goalies are more inclined to anticipate the ball and run out after it.

last season I lost a game because of it. a midfielder of my opponent lobbed the ball into my own net because my goalkeeper took a long time to return to the his place.
And in my last game another apponent did it again!!! It's unreal and the pace of my goalkeeper is not that bad (excellent). I think it should be fixed. the movements of the goalkepeer should be improved

Just buy keepers with high passing...

or more pace =)

Yep. It's the only really, truly irritating aspect of the way this game is coded, for me.

Playmaking also matters to avoid shooting the ball to the side lines.

So you can have a high passing defender with disastrous playmaking shooting the ball out to the sides. You need high playmaking to avoid this.

So we're agreed that this is something too be looked at seriously?

This is something that gets raised every month or so. I remember doing it myself about 6 months ago. I can't recall ever seeing it being listed as a priority fix however.
2007-04-13 04:25:35
Well it's about time it was addressed then, no? ;)

Preaching to the choir here vivski.

I was about to search through the forum for an earlier thread about this. So thanks guys for bringing it up before me! :D

Now, to address the matter: the goalie's movements can quite easily seem pretty ridiculous. One thing has been mentioned earlier, about the opponents' players getting to the ball and putting it into the empty net from midfield. Another thing is the sheer time it takes for the goalie to kick the ball back out.

In "the real world," a goalie will try and read the field to decide whether he should put the ball back into play quickly or not. What happens in sokker is it takes ages no matter how the field looks. So, when it comes to goalie movement, perhaps it would be an idea to implement a feature where the goalie some times kicks the ball out immediately, other times moving towards the centre of the box (or so) before kicking?

As a simple fix, I'd suggest: the goalie taking the ball, running back to the goal face, walking to the middle of the penalty area and then booting the ball would temporarily solve the problem and buy the developers some time. After which a more thought out solution could be found.

Really it just looks ridiculous for the goalie to run out and leave his goal totally abandoned.
