Subject: GK kicks ball from where he gathers it

2007-04-16 15:05:04
As a simple fix, I'd suggest: the goalie taking the ball, running back to the goal face, walking to the middle of the penalty area and then booting the ball would temporarily solve the problem and buy the developers some time. After which a more thought out solution could be found.

Really it just looks ridiculous for the goalie to run out and leave his goal totally abandoned.

btw, what is the use of a high skilled passing keeper, if he kicks the ball allways to the kick-off point? [mmmj]

Have you had a low passing skilled GK? It's highly dangerous!

While we're on the topic, can I request a boost to the GK's boots? IRL good GKs can roost it well over the centre line, sometimes up to the top of the opposing box on the full. This isn't really reflected in Sokker at the moment but would be nice.

Well, the problem isn't with the boots, but with the trajectory of the ball... In real life, the curve follows a parabolic shape, but in Sokker, it starts off normally, going up and across.... and then comes down nearly vertically!! Geez, the wind must be strong...

Also, the bounce of the ball needs to be more natural...

Also, the ball needs to roll faster... in some cases, a long pass will slow down too quickly and stop... seems like they're playing in long grass ;)

as i said: high skilled passing keeper

not max, but outstanding isn't that bad for a keeper :)

if you design a straight winger tactic with no central midfielder, you won't get any ball when the keeper does a goal-kick. he allways tries to bring it to the kick-off point. of course, the quality of that pass depends on the passing skill. but what's the use, if the balll goes 'very accurate' to the opponent? I think weather affects this. Balls seem to go out more if the weather is "hot" as opposed to "rainy".

IF so then it's in WRONG direction ;-) (if it don't rain that much making it muddy), because IRL it's HARDER to make a long pass ball to stop, when the grass is wet.

The first bounce goes flying but it wont roll along the ground as fast as if the ground is dry and hard.

Anyway, that's off-topic. I created a topic about ball trajectory so you can discuss it in there. ;)

The wind resistance is an issue but I don't think it's the reason behind GKs not being able to roost it deep into enemy territory. It seems to be a design choice for the GK to aim for the centre line but I'd like to see it changed.

i think pm should be added to goalies game. it would be very rare that a keeper would have high pm thus effectively helping attack build-up (with sufficient passing, of course) but it is rare irl too. kahn is a good example. some of them play pseudo sweeper..
2007-04-19 08:31:40
I'm not sure we need GKs to have PM... but it would make it a lot harder to find a really good keeper (for better or worse). Maybe keepers could all have magical PM skills (hardcoded) by default so they can find good targets... then it's just a matter of whether their passing skills can get the ball to where it's going.

I think you're right in saying the GK aims for somewhere along the centre line. It might be better to try to hit players instead.

But the main issue for me is still that GKs run back to where they took the ball. My suggested temporary solution is to have the GK run back to goal, then walk in the direction they're about to kick the ball then kick it when they reach the middle of the penalty area. It's a quick fix, but it would at least stop the ridiculous situation of running out to the side before kicking the ball. There has to be a better way than that.

I don't think GK needs any more skills than now.

All he has to do is to kick the ball after he's picked it up!
2007-04-30 07:34:32
I agree, but I think he should have something like magical playmaking (regardless of the value he has) and instead of aiming for the spot, he would choose a good option instead.

So a keeper with solid pace, solid keeper, average passing and tragic playmaking on his player stats would play like a solid, solid, average and magical... if you understand what I mean.

I'd still like to see the devs publicly recognise this as a problem that needs to be addressed.

There's another GK issue which cost me a goal this week. The GK stands on the same side of the pitch as the ball in order to cover the near post. However, if the ball is slightly one side of centre, the keeper still moves to that side leaving the other half completely open to long shots.

It would be nice if when the ball is in the middle channel of the pitch, the keeper stood in the middle of the goal to equally cover both posts.

Any other comments on goalie movements?

Another thing that's been getting on my nerves... goalies can't run at their pace speed. When the ball is 'passed' from the midfield towards the far post, the goalie "crawls" towards it rather than moving at any sort of realistic speed. It sometimes takes several seconds to move maybe 3m needed to stop the ball rolling slowly into the net.

In my last league game, I scored three goals due to a keeper having bad positioning and speed. My opponent scored a pass from midfield due to the same.
