Subject: GK kicks ball from where he gathers it

2007-07-18 18:54:12
Today, again, I conceded a goal in the following manner: The goalie leaves the goal to obtain the ball about 10 m to the side of the goal, near the goal line. So far, all well and good. Then he moves back in front of the goal, and back out again. Then his kick is awful, straight to an opponent player. It would have been a bad pass even if the goalie had been in front of the goal, but since he is way off to the side, the goal is wide open for anyone to put the ball in if they can get it.

Now this was only a training match for me, so there's no big issue. It just looks _really_ stupid and takes a little bit of realism out of things.

How often does it happen? It happens in RL, so if it happened once a season i think that's fair enough?

(is it much more often)

Whenever my keeper takes a goal kick, I fear that he won't get back in time... He's not a slow coach as well, solid pace, which is good enough for my team and league.

It is much more often. There is a more urgent issue regarding the "goalkeeper not saving passes that hit the goal"-problem, but the poor kicks from a golie in an awkward position in the box happens every now and then. Usually it doesn't amount to a goal, but the risk taken by the goalie is still unbeilevably high. I would be understanding towards it if it were a playmaking issue, but as far as I've understood, it isn't.

what about his passing skill? maybe it is too low?

I think this must be a skill issue. I have a NT keeper on my team and train keepers. I have never seen these type of problems.

EDIT: The exception is that i think the keepers reaction is abit too slow for his pace. But not much.

Solid passing as well. He has played 1 match for the NT :D

my gk has outstanding passing and incredible pace. never had problems with immediate goals after a goalkick. anyway, i don't like his goalkicks which are allways centered to the kickoff point.

It might be a passing skill issue. However, if any playmaking were involved -- any at all, 1% of the total, if the player had as much as a very poor understanding of goalkeeping, he would understand that kicking the ball from, say, 10m to the side of the goal, is *not* a good idea unless he is perfectly certain that his kick will be a good one.

I won't contest that the bad passes aren't a result of bad passing. The positioning is the issue, one out of my plentiful resource of such. (Oh, I made a funny! :D)

Goalkeepers should never experience the risk of an opposition scoring after a goal kick. The goalie should be back between the posts before the ball hits the ground.

Also, how often IRL does the goalie roost the ball to the half-way line and walk back onto his goal line? I'd say maybe never. They'd roost the ball then walk somewhere between the goalie's box and the spot, right?

I tend to avoid "IRL" arguments, as Sokker is a game based on association football, and we are not trying to replicate real life, but it's just not the way the game is supposed to be played.

Okay, I'll rephrase it.

I'd like my goalie to move to the middle of the box after launching the ball into the opponent's half. That would make him tactically in a better position to cut off through balls.

it happened w me yesterday again (1st goal on the match). i had it at least once every season on non-friendlies, quite annoying.

(ok, my keeper dont have passing, but he's supposed to be fast... what is not in these cases)

Yay, I got ANOTHER goal from this bug in my league game this week. 48th minute.
If a goalie is low on pace then that's even more reason to stay close to goal.
