Subject: GK kicks ball from where he gathers it
What would be nice is if the goal kicks were taken from a bit closer to the middle of the goalie's box. It's a long way to walk back to cover the goal from a poor goal kick. I rarely see goalies take their kick from the very edge of the box.
This is still the part of the ME that I find most annoying.
1. GK should kick the ball from somewhere in front of his goal (not off to the side where he picked it up),
2. GK should move away from his goal when the play is in the opponent's half (to cover long balls),
3. GK should not let passes into the net unless he is unsighted.
They are 3 things to do with GK behaviour which would really improve the game, in my opinion. The keepers have benefited from the new animations but they are still the weakest part of the ME. It results in a lot of frustration.
Am I alone or do people agree?

I agree.
I have joined sokker since this discussion started, and the one thing that stands out as being the least like real life is the keeper kicks.
In real life, every professional keeper is capable of kicking the ball across the centre line; if they can't, they don't get hired. Full stop. The distance they aim for tends to be 15 m across the line, maximising the chances that a forward can pick it up onside (the forwards of course lining up on the centre line for the kick). Most of them could probably kick it farther but it's counterproductive. Watch any match on the telly and you'll see this, consistently. 10-20 m across the centre line, 90-100% of the time. Maybe a little lower percentage in the lower divisions, but none of this ridiculous business of shanking it into touch halfway up your side of the field...

it's up to you to get rich enough to buy a keeper who fulfills this ability
You're very right Lovely, most professional keepers can roost it well into the opposing half. Even the best NT keepers do not get that kind of carry on their goal kicks.
As I remember, that has also been discussed in the past with no real conclusion. I hope that the movement and kicking are on the agenda for the next round of match engine (ME) updates.

imo an easy adjustment of gk-performance would be to increase and modify the power and the trajectory of GK-kicks (depending on the passing skill, of course, like it is now).
right now a good ps-skilled gk kicks the ball at the height of the center spot but not more forwards. so in general good+ ps is enough for a gk to kick off the ball. in fact, no higher ps-skill is neccessary for a gk. or do you see any significant difference in excellent vs outstanding ps?
an adjustment would create more tactical options with better passing gk's, i.e. fast turnovers by a gk passing the ball to an off-mid, who heads the ball to the striker, or even directly to the striker deep in the opponent half.
opiniions?

Well, first I have to see one. Even the best NT keepers don't kick it across the centre line in sokker.

second, even the poorest GK don't make this mistake IRL.

and even the worst defender doesn't kick the ball out when there is no striker close to him.
So if you wanna make it real, the difference between top and "normal" wouldn't be that big.
Other example: even in real life, every midfielder can play a pass to a winger, if there's no defender close to him and so on and so on...
-> it's super as it is now imho.

My last two cupgames were brilliant: no silly behavior and a tense game as a result. And no weird results like 9-10 either. Why try to make the game more frustrating than it should be by defending the decision to add unrealistic behavior?
It doesn't matter if the opponent recuperates the ball with a throw in or by catching a ball that went over the midline. And the second one is smoother, is more pleasant to watch and won't throw off new users.

To force people into training it? If good would be good enough, no one would keep training it, I guess.

wrong
because there are plenty more ways to do that

Two issues here. First, I have no problem with some unrealistic behaviour; that said, I want to play a game that at least remotely resembles what I see out on the pitch. And the way keepers kick the ball out has no resemblance at all to the real game, at any professional level.
Second, I think the difference between top and "normal" as it stands is too big. Why not make the gaps a little smaller, give up-and-coming managers a chance to advance on managerial skill alone? Is that not what this game should be about?

Well, imho the game is about tactic and skills.
So you should be able to have success either with good tactics or with (much) better players.
If the gap was smaller, only tactic would be important and the skills wouldn't really be important anymore...
