Subject: Stop "special play": long pass

2007-12-07 21:25:01
just have verified with code - defenders never make running passes, if you saw it paste match & minute

mistake, they made, but rarer.

I see matches of Ekstraklasa. And, this long pass (magic pass) are frecuently. Lot of cases, the defender can arrive to de ball before de forward. But the mayority, the defenders just don't move.

Mayority, blabla, one situation when defenders not move - match & minute :>

The point is: a "magical pass" can happen in real life, I mean, a very good pass wich is not stoped by the defense, so, it´s ok for sokker, I find it properly.
Now, when the pass is happening, what I find really extrange is what the DEFs do: they stay in there quite while the ball and the ATT are passing beside them! In real life a DEF goes for the ball or for the man or for both of them, but never stays watching quite.

So, if the pass happens EVEN when the DEFs try to do their work, ok, it is fine, but not when it happens like now.

Thats the way I see it, I hope my english is not an obstacle for understanting each other. Thanks for reading!

My back three stood in a line as the forward moved onto long distance pass from a defensive mid:

Could just be mr_gibbage using his wrestny mod powers?

That´s exactly what I´m talking about: a 60 metres pass and the three DEF´s backline stood quite and watching! It´s so unreal...

In a moment I'll look for some examples of this in my matches. But I wanted to say that we should check 3 things in each of this examples:
-wether defs are doing this really "rarely"
-wether, despite being les probable than for mids, their running passes are creating more danger each time they happen (for this we need general examples, no tonly those that ended in a goal - the point is the pass itself)
-wether the behaviour of defending plyers is reasonable in this kind of plays.

In particular I'dlike to highlight that defenders running to theball while strikers run to the "target" of he ball creates an advntage for stikers that is easy to believe in short running passes (i.e., from an offensive mid to a forward), but hard to believe in long running passes (a defender may have problems blocking a 60mts pass, but those problems can't be that he is "fooled" by tinling the ball will stop, let say, 20 mts earlier :P).

Minute 43

Pass from Peirone (poor PM, excellent passing). Peutinekx is the "fooled" defender.

This is what running passes by defenders are supposed to represent :P Both players see teh ball coming, but forward wins the fight.

This is a runnign pass by offensive mid, near the box. Defenders fail to predict the ball.

I think Sokker is making every running pass as this last kind of pass, even if it comes from 60 mts ;)

That is no bug - who said that poor PM can never maker run pass? Even tragic can, but of course much rarer than divine (he need luck for that, plenty of luck:)

Peutinekx is the "fooled" defender.

But defender reaction was ok, he tried to cut the pass. Of course he oriented himself later than attacker (just like he could if it was 'normal' pass), but that's the way running pass works - attacker starts to run before defence know there will be a pass, look your second situation from RL:

Yes, but that's the point: it is possible in short distance because it's too late to see the ball. But from your own side, that's a different kind of play I think ;)

About skills: I dont't say they're bad, I just gave them because I consider them relevant information, no matter if the conclusion is that they're acting well or bad ;)

Carley tried to get the ball - reaction was ok.

(maybe if Cloghiru tried had bigger chance, hard to tell).

Defenders reacts the same when running pass or normal pass - there is no any difference for them.

Only difference is that attacker (or who is receiving ball), knows it earlier.

Anyway, there was the other bug with running passes - there was condition, that probably was meant to eliminate any running passes from DEF or GK, that could be running pass only if... closests opponent is MID or ATT (not when making pass is MID or ATT). DEF players was in such situation most often as opponents were usually ATT or MID, so passed most often running pass (often of course if had high playmaking additionaly, at least - more often than MID's with the same playmaking as they had DEF or MID opponents close most time).

As it is important bug, and favours playing with 5 DEF as it was not intended to, will be fixed soon - at 12-12-2007 (or you want it tommorow?;).
News soon.

Another thing a bout 60 meters running passes is that seems incredibly unrealistic, those passes are incredibly fast at a low height, crosses the entire field and in the last 5 meters stops kind of suddenly.

I can conceive a 80 meter pass if the defender (or def mid) kicks it and the ball goes long and a reasonable height. but the way those passes are right now...

Lot of this would be a goal if the defender were less good, and the forward has at least outstanding technique. :)

I think that change of different passing speed by length should be realy hard, but I am not developer.

offtopic:If not it should be also good if passing should be influenced by weather...

The thing is, Carley was set as a mid, not as a defender. The mid reacted, while the defender didn't and just stood still.
