Running Pass Bug Fix Autor: mr_gibbage
2007-12-08 11:47:37

There has been a bug with running passes - in the match engine, defenders (DEF) rather than midfielders (MID) were making most of the running passes when they had the similar levels of playmaking.

After the fix, most running passes will be made by midfielders, with less by defenders as it should have been before. It will be very rare for attackers to make these passes.

As this is an important bug fix, this fix will be applied from 12/12/07.

that's the first level to the change! :D

I thought this moment would never happen [cry]

Thanks all of you who gave examples in this thread and helped to identify the problem and fix it.

greg: Thank you for listening and fixing the bug. In my opinion, there are still issues that have to be address, such as those passes given from the sideline that are sent directly to the goalkick (not even close to the penalty area), or too long rebounds (it's ok if guys with lack of technique do not control a ball; but it's something different when the rebound goes 10 meters off, or when the ball bounces off the forward 10 mts. backwards... forwards usually have technique, they can't miss not only catching a ball but bouncing it off 10 mts).

Thank you again for trying to improving this game. My main message remains the same: go back to the roots, make them play football, do not engage in a HT-policy of the patch of the patch (or "path of patches").

Thank you.

If I understood the text corect, then I suppouse that's WRONG = It ISN'T a bug. (At least not if the pass goes over the opponents.)
Actually it's rather EASY to make running passes for a defender with passing/playmaking skill enough, and easier than what it is for Midfielders, because defenders much more often get the ball in positions, when there are much more RUNNING SPACE to hit. Both for instance Franz Beckenbauer and I ;-) have made houndreds successful ones.

BUT some of the judgement of the defenders, concerning WHERE to run, is a bug. Although it's NOT a bug that attackers in average can judge it better than the defenders, because they know the passer better, and funny curved passes have fooled many defenders.

(((For instance the under and side curved one, which made Sweden loose in WC in Italy, and Petit fooled some in the Cup Winners final. Theese was from midfielder positions, but Frans Beckenbauer made them OFTEN from defender positions. An other type I used myself was made just side curves with the TOE, because then can't the defenders see by the hit, which curve it will be, so many defender liberos have been fooled to run to even wrong corner of the penalty area. And they have to turn and run, because otherwice they will be to slow. The attackers I told to run to one corner each, and not look before they where close, to not be fooled them also ;-)

same problem here, when a ST catch the ball try to go from goal, but if a MF and DF are closer to him, i see mostly times that the MF try to catch up, meanwhile the DF watch. In my opinion is wrong decision because the DF quit the ball better than a MF (and its you first task) and most importan too, he is in the path of the ST.
Its it normal situation?
excuse my poor english

allways very interesting to read your football anecdotes... :)

this is a problem with your tactic.
you have the ball in a field and if the ball moves closer to your goal you put your defenders deeper into your half and move the midfielders back aswell.
thats wrong.
if you do it like that, the defenders will just stand there and watch the midfielder trying to run to the ball.
you have to move the defender who is closest to the ball a bit forward into the direction he should run.
this way the defender will start to run to the ball and not stand still or move back.

I think that is a good improvement to implement, but, pleae, keep your mind to one aspect:
it is very dnagerous for defs making short passes to close mids, because a lot of players use "attackers stealing ball tactics", grouping two or even three attacckers in the area where the ball is so that they can steal it from the defender if he doesn't kick it right away; if the def now, instead of just shooting the ball away, tries to pass it to the nearer mid, it increases very much the chances for attackers to steal the ball and run to the goal.
I understand it is very difficult to make changes to the ME and calibrate them, just please pay lot of attention like you always do.

PS if you want to credit me for one more year of plus I will accept with pleasure
