Subject: [U21] friendly season

2013-06-07 15:41:38
how were you suppose to know what they would play... you can only guess, but sometimes , the opponent can surprise you, like today
maybe a 4 defenders tactic would have been better, but at least you tried

i`ve seen the whole match...the difference between players is visible, they pretty much have every compartment better than us
a good thing is you played a very young generation, especially from the mids up

New Zealand (75.) - Pilipinas (71.)

After our last weeks defeat against Crna Gora we now face Pilipina U21. It's again an U21 match. Pilipina lost last week against Prathet Thai U21 by 0:2, but they showed a nice match. Star of the squad is the 21yo Archie Austria, a player usually playing the central midflied. It will be again a hard fight for us, but two of our best are back in the team: Nathan Witt and Douglas Donoso (who is still slightly injured). I still hope for a victory and hopefully we finally can beat at least this team. Please keep your fingers crossed for that!

Different week, same shit.
We had the better team (except the strikers). The tactics was okay in my opinion. If you don't agree please tell it to me.

No changes, NZ u21 still loosing.

Indeed. But now every week! ;)

Last week we hadn't the fortune to score or - maximum of self-confidence - to win, the same today. But at least our joker De Bruin scored again (like against Bosnia). It was an equal match, so the result is okay. I'm happy with this midfield of the U20, Zorichic, Woodward, Montgomery and Fleming did pretty well and Umaga with his 19 years (like Woodward) did so too. We had little problems in our defense. There were only Hagan and less Davidson that convinced me. The rest the backline is still not competetive. But the main problems of our team are the strikers. Well, Reid is also only 19 yo but Donoso still does not know where to score. De Bruin was okay but mainly because of the late time in the match he came into. Probably Nonu will become better with the time - he's our hope in the offense. Our keeper Knowles did the best he can. I really like him.

Next time we play agains Danmark. It will also be a U20 match so you will surely see the same guys again. Keep your fingers crossed to find another defender or striker. Or both?

It is very difficult to manage a NT as New Zealand U21. I think you are working very well and the results are very good! I hope for you that the next weeks in the youth school of NZ arrive some good players. Good luck! ;)

i`ve watched the game...and yes, the defence seems to be the achille`s heel
the midfielders did pretty good today, considering the fact that there were 2 players of 19 on the pitch
they have time to grow in skills...as for the strikers, nonu and reid will be more than decent in a couple of seasons

Thanks a lot! Concerning the results I don't agree. Especially the match against Pilipinas was very disappointing.

Today a 0-2 defeat against Danmark.
The main problem remains the offense. We had some nice chances but still it was not possible to score. The performance was a bit weaker then the one against Ecuador. Probably because of the stronger oponnent, probably because of the weaker form of our midfielders. The two goals were unnecessary, especially the first one. Knowles already had the ball. Well...

you did well...the difference between the players was more than visible

Thanks! Before I go to sleep I always pray to god to give us a striker with tech 13 and striker 13. No matter the pace. Certainly god knows that I'm an atheist. ;)

Again we were so close to a surprise. But the header of Reid didn't hit the empty goal which would have been the lead in that match at that moment. So again a defeat by an unnecessary goal. I really don't know why Bodger has divine keeper and superdivine form to let the ball through.
But the worst is definitely the injury of Zorichic, our best U20 midfielder.

New Zealand (74.) - India (63.)

Last week we were close to surprise - but just only close. So we lost again by 0-1. Our team was noticably weaker than the one of our opponent. The week before looked quite the same: the 0-2 against Danmark showed our narrowness. The one of the team and mine.
Today we play against India. A team of nearly similar strength. I have great respect for their strikers. The 20yo [pid=25625961Mario Ruchi[/pid] is really strong for his age.
Our best U20 keeper Kingi is still out of form. Certainly Knowles also dropped in form. So we have some problems in the very back. Our defender Nigel Lynch got a red card last week so the defense is also not that strong like ist was against Danmark (when I really liked the performance of our defense!). Jim Hawks will give his debut in the white dress in our defense. Good luck to him! He's a well trained 20yo defender with a nice body height. Also absent is our best midfielder because of an early injury during the match against Lietuva last week: actually Zoricich (our big hope in the midfield for the next season) is only slightly injured but I don't risk a new injury of him.
Below the line it could have been better and easier this week. I tried my best concerning tactics (as I always do) - hopefully we are able to make it India as hard as we can these days.
Btw: Supporters think the opponent is better, but with a little luck you could spring a surprise.

Again our problem became evident: the qualitiy of our strikers. 17 shots 0 goals.
On the other side 4 shots 2 goals.
All in a whole the performance was okay. The throwings were not optimal especially in the opponents half. Nevertheless it's just very hard to win without scoring.

PS: Forgot to say thanks to two other debutants today: Clint Byers who played really well for 38 nice minutes and Isaac Aiken who also did his job.

Bad luck again :(
Why the hell Nathan Reid doesn't score? 8/0...I thought he'd be a striker when I sold him, now when I see him playing like that I better should've kept him to turn him into a midfielder.
