lol.
I bet Chadwick was stressing you out with his missed chances.

Congrats on the win. :) I was a little worried most of the match.
Didn't quite get Turkey's tactic. They are renowned for their defense and were playing against a team renowned for their strikers. Thought they would play a little tighter.
Nice match by Bodger. Watts was good too. Taylor made some terrific saves. I am super jealous of brilliant-form Hird. :)
IMO you should examine the offensive zone throw-ins - were not effective (Turkey's were poor too).
I was surprised to see Sansom play the full match. I knew he was getting some stamina training, but I didn't realize he was getting the full fix.
Congrats again! A good start. :)

my ratings
1 taylor 8/10
Did some great saves, in the beginning of the match very well save and in late 2nd half also. 2 goals not his fault ..
2. Watts 6/10
Played too risky, kept the ball too long and tried to pass his upcoming man sometimes giving a away some dangerous chances. Also did some good things though..
3. Harris 9/10
Almost plays the perfect match, some very important interventions and also assisting on the flank when watts was doing something stupid again :)
4. Edwards 7/10
Did a good match, nothing special to mention ..
5. Dawkins 7/10
also very sober match, 2nd goal of turkey was challenge for the head, that's only based on luck, nothing to blame him
6. richards 8/10
he ran a lot, he worked hard and i putt him there to make shorter passes from the defence trough him to hird, to make higher accuracy, and it worked well, he gave some dangerous passes himself too, great match of him
7. Kelly 8/10
Very usefull match, he closed all the gaps in the defense to avoid trough balls, he also gave some good offensive passes
8. chadwick 7/10
well, he played very well, making some actions, but finishing was off today, he made a important goal tho .. but he was pretty closed in by turkey's good defense
9. sansom 8/10
Also sansom ran a lot, but he was closed in by 2 mids of turkey most of the time, also too low in defense to recover high. But he gave a great assist, he played well (for seca, we didn't really had an alternative so we let him play all match)
10. hird 9/10
what can i say, he play brilliant, he made their defense look like a fool, always making the actions on the flank, giving some incredible passes. I love this guy :)
11. bodger 8/10
Also was pretty good closed in by the great defense, 3 chances, 2 goal, what more can i say, a lifesaver!! :)
About the tactic, the throw ins were a disaster, i know, also watts played not so good because of the throw ins, he come under pressure and do something foolish.
The first goal of turkey was 2 times the ball jumped away from his feet (sjeeshhh). you just hope the keeper gonna get it :)
the 2nd goal of turkey also nothing to do about, nice center and a nice header.. can't defend that, i think new zealand played a nice match to look at, some attacking football, and some nice opportunities.. Next match, I'll do my best to work out the tactical errors, i'm so ashamed of the throw ins, looks noob :)
BUT, we won, a good start is half the work they say in Belgium :)

Congrats on the win! Some important points I'd say! :)
Indeed, that was a very important match to qualify NZ.
I agree that throw ins were not very good, but anyway it's acceptable...your first match as NZ Coach :). The team played and behaved well in the pitch, the contrary of Turkey, in which was totally bad.

I think we were lucky to win that match.. Turkey played a crap tactic against us as Seca said before, 3 man defense and focused on attacking against a team which has striker potential gushing out its ears? geeez.
I thought Richards played a terrible match first off. His passes weren't accurate, he kept running with the ball when he knew he was gonna get tackled and a midfielder receiving as much of the ball as he was should really be setting up a few goals, whereas he didn't even get an assist..
Next thing, throw ins.. were absolutely appauling all over the pitch, but more specifically up near the opponent goal. Who was there to throw to? Personally i play by the philosophy of trying to get a midfielder with good passing to receive the throw so there is more of a chance of some kind of setup. Throw ins down near the goal are a huge opportunity, but with no one there that opportunity is utterly wasted.
Third up, why was Sansom playing the whole match!? His stamina in no way justifies it and i would've liked to have seen him subbed off at about 60 max. I dont think i saw him doing much in the last 30 which helps my case.
Chadwick/Gilbert.. i'm wondering why you didn't have the substitutions the other way round? Gilbert has proved himself time and time again to be a real annoyance to the opposition defense and Chadwick has been pretty average. On the striker topic i would've liked to see Hird in-field a little more where he has more of a chance of scoring goals instead of setting them up.
Defense was ish. I'm wondering how technical some of the guys are because of the amount of ball they fumbled which set up goals. Watts didn't play terribly well but i dont think he is one of the guys suited to the wingback position.
Tactically overall, The strikers were positioned pretty well in terms of offside trap prevention, i noticed them moving around a lot when the ball was moving around in defense which i didn't like much because it tires them out. Would've liked to see Kelly move up one more square/spot (not a whole 1/35 square) but just to get involved in the midfield play a little more. A greater use of subs i'd also like to see, we have a few even skilled players around the midfield, and some with abilities opposite of the others. If we had a nice passing middie like Tomlinson playing i would've been happier, Atkinson playing too would've been nice considering he is more of a rounded player/winger too.
Defense... meh.. i dont know as much tactically about it so i wont really comment.
Definitely a game to improve on. We should've punished their heavily offensive tactic severely and i'm hoping we'll do so in the rematch.

seriously, we been checking all players, if you would play someone with very good pace and solid passing in stead of sansom .. no thanks .. atkinson was still slightly injured. The throw ins were bad, i allready told that yes, but that's because i adjusted the tactic at the last minute and i forgot all about it. about Gilbert, if you would play a important qualification match, you wouldn't putt a striker with average striking, espescially when it's the first. He did give an assist last match, but honoustly, take a look at it, it wasn't even an assist to mention.. Agree about the defenders, they did some bad controls, if you find me better ones, please show me :) i didn't see them in the list, de bruin was an option, but he also has adequate technique. Kelly play higher .. maybe, because that depends on how the opposition player is positioned of course .. I just tried to let them come and recover the ball. Also, their 2 goals were kinda lucky and we got some good chances we blew up. about richards, i'll take another look at the match tomorrow, i'm too tired now :) anyway, we won and i'll defenitely try to improve. I appologize again for the throw ins wich caused some good chances for turkey, won't happen again. Next match against italy .. well .. we'll do our best :))
indeed.we got lucky it seems turkey put away the early shots while we didnt,we missed 2 sitters in the 6th and 21th from chadwick.Hird in good form as he was in major space.defence marked up well to.
i took another look at the match, in specific to richards, first half hour he played good, giving some good crosses, strikers weren't at the right spots, that's unlucky .. last 15 minutes he didn't get the ball. in 2nd half he gave 1 less good pass. But he gave 2 passes the hird who then gave the assist to the 2 goals. after that richards got tired, he still gave some good passes to hird but maybe a substitution would've been good. We'll see for that in the future :)

Any idea how much guys like him usually go for?
Pace isn't favourable though.
