I haven't followed Portugal too closely, but they've always struck me as an under-achieving side. At some point they are likely to shed that image. Best 11 vs. best 11 I don't think there is a lot to choose between New Zealand and Portugal. But with over 1000 managers Portugal has far more depth. Form, injuries and suspensions are a much greater concern for New Zealand.
The big thing about the #1 was avoiding Poland and the possible -10 that means for one's goal differential. I haven't followed Estonia all that closely either - my sense is that they are a very good defensive team. As long as you've got a top keeper I figure you have a chance in any match you play. Taylor will be back for Estonia, which means anything is possible. :)

It looks like the sort of group you could qualify in 3rd place from.
Certainly possible. Though there are only 4 3rd place teams that will go through, and two of those are likely to come from the groups with Cameroon and Tunisia as the #3 seeds. Qualifying in 3rd is dicey.

Good luck with this group... Portugal played against Holland in the last WC they are prety tough.. But it's possible to reach te world cup for NZ. Good luck Seca :)
Thanks. Portugual would be decent #2. They are a very strong #3.
The injury to Taylor may be a bit of a blessing. He's probably missing some training (not cool), but should be in good form and available for the first Q-match. He is, without a doubt, the most important player on the team.
New Zealand is the land of strikers, but the strikers seem to be a little off kilter. Venerable Bodger is injured and off-form. Neither of the Tigers strikers are in great form (B-Gil & little M). Leaves old man Hird as the main in-form New Zealand trigger man.
But the defense looks good. Kelly, Kilkenny et al are in pretty good form and quite healthy. *Knocks on maple.* Hopefully they can keep it going. :)

Kelly with a 24 day knock today. :S He's probably the second most important player on the squad. Estonia the only match of consequence he'll miss with it.
i arranged match against ukrania but they scheduled against someone else so i was screwed, asked on the forum and looked in the list but didn't find any other country, sorry, but doesn't affect anything, wouldve rather ended with a win then this but ok .. anyway, thanks for the season guys
If you are going to miss a week, the week before qualifications start would be a good one to pick. :) Still a shame not to get the final match of your tenure in.
blame the guy i arranged a match with, you can check the blog of ukrania, it says week 1: new zealand ....
