What can be better, than beating Australia twice in a season?:)

I knew before the game Willis will be used as a high winger, but still decided to try 4 defenders and get more men on midfield. Our wingbacks were set to play quite wide in some cases and it worked well stopping Willis. I love Brent Gilbert - He is worse than Morocombe, but dribbles like a god. Shame we scored only 2 goals, missed quite a few one-on-ones against keeper. My throw-in plan didn´t work as I planned. Won`t try that again.

I think it was a deserved win and yet another exciting game against Aussies.

Lucky win but that's Sokker these days ;).

I can't really see how it was tbh. You should have had a red card from the penalty, Newhill shouldn't have been red carded and above all you shouldn't have been able to dribble through an entire divine or higher defense in who were in top form to score from the front.

Taking that aside, it's a win and that's all that counts.

The deserved result was a draw.

Your players also made many fouls, especially against Morocombe. Maybe your players should have got more cards. Even before Newhill was out we played great. But who knows, the win is only thing that matters.

A lot of which were from Morton. I would have rather had Morton sent off than Newhill if you had either Kelly or Vettori sent off.

Well I'd hardly consider that either of us played "great".

Looking at scoring chances alone:

Aus:
(4 inside box chances butchered, 1 penalty, 2 outside box sprayed)

1 shot inside box missed
goal from penalty
1 header inside box missed
1 on 1 missed
tap in header with no keeper missed.
shot outside box -> off target
shot outside box -> off target

NZ: (1 goal from outside box off a header that was contested, 2 one on ones butchered, 1 goal resulting from strange fumbling sequence and a missed one on one, 1 outside box sprayed)

goal from outside the box from a header that was contested by another defender of ours and it came off the post.
1 on 1 saved
1 outside box -> off target
1 on 1 saved
2 shots turned into goal from lots of fumbles.

You look at those and it's not really encouraging.

Still I won't continue expressing the reasons it wasn't necessarily deserved. It was a fair win but I wouldn't label it deserved when you got outshot despite us having a man down.

Congrats on winning, it should set you up for the top 30 spots now :).

Really the big difference was that your strikers are just so strong atm which is something we can't match to put more pressure on your defense.

That`s hardly fair. As you know not always players get red card, when they make a foul in the penalty box. Especially in Sokker, because can`t see what kind of foul it was.

*****

Seems like you are trying to make me feel bad, but I can live with that:)

You brought out the scoring chances, but you missed how many times we actaully were a threat under your goal.

Feel free to say I was lucky, I won´t agree with it. I think I was tactically good and our mids gave many passes to strikers who almost always had a chance to create something dangerous. And if you would know how hard it was to choose players for today, especially for midfield.

I know you don`t like to lose, but they are only friendlies and both of us want to play in World Cup. So lets hope we can both manage to accomplish our goals.

Anyway, it will be hard to get the 2nd seed, because next week I am going to miss 2 players, who got yellow card today (which is actually a good thing) and we are playing against strong Finland.

I'm not trying to make you feel bad though, I just didn't agree with the idea that you thought it was the "deserved" result. In football you rarely get the deserved result though.

I deliberately did that because it would just lead to nonsense as I would then go on to state how many chances we had that didn't end up, like a few Maras fumbles, a couple of crosses not finding the head etc whilst talking down yours due to most of them coming from situations where the tackle should have been made earlier etc. I won't go down there because that would be coming across as a sour grape and it would be unfair to comment. I only went on those that were "real chances" and that's all you can ever comment on.

I think I was tactically good and our mids gave many passes to strikers who almost always had a chance to create something dangerous. And if you would know how hard it was to choose players for today, especially for midfield.

Well yeah you were tactically quite good and you used your advantage in strikers to pick out a problem in our defensive setup which worked wonders and gave you the chances. Your midfield can't be all that bad as you make it out to be considering how many passes threaded the defense with precision from halfway, whilst we rarely did on the counter (a lot probably due to striker positioning for this game, but it's a common problem I've found that I give away more mass through balls and get nothing in return. Certainly not your fault though and is something I'm still yet to work out.)

I know you don`t like to lose, but they are only friendlies and both of us want to play in World Cup. So lets hope we can both manage to accomplish our goals.

I don't actually have problems losing as hard as it may appear. I actually have problems with consistencies in the match engine which quite often results in us losing. I've even complained when I win under those inconsistencies. Things like through balls for example which should easily be cut out, fumbles that seem to fall the majority of one way, so for example a brilliant technique player unable to control the ball all game whilst the opposition with good technique never fumble though that's just an example, players leaving it for the keeper instead of following back in support etc. That's what I get unhappy about :). Just happens a lot that it feels essentially like there's nothing you can do and everything is pre-determined before it even starts like a coin toss.

Anyway, it will be hard to get the 2nd seed, because next week I am going to miss 2 players, who got yellow card today (which is actually a good thing) and we are playing against strong Finland.

Shouldn't matter against Finland because I don't think that result will count towards the seeding as I think it's after this round, so you should be a 2nd seed unless teams above you all thump their opposition :).

To end on a positive note, it was another close game which could have gone either way. Whilst I'm disappointed we lost I'm more disappointed with the way we lost rather than the result itself :). I think that's the problem with text posts because they can be interpreted different ways (from both sides). It was a fair win because the game was close and both sides had fairly similar chances as is usually the case. You've achieved something that hasn't been done for a long time against us by a NZ manager, so that's credit to your tactics.

Good luck against Finland. We'll just have to keep working out how to stop Morcombe from breaking tackles constantly. I'm short of ideas atm ;).

I´ll answer you next Friday when I am done reading it. Just kidding.
Lets book week 15 next season. Maybe you can the revenge you want then:)

Btw the WC draw should take place next week, after the game against Finland and I think the chances are 50/50 at the moment. I mostly depends how are closest opponents are doing.

I never have problems with length and that was no exception :). Sometimes I wonder if people actually read the end of it or just go oh it's that person who writes long posts again we'll just skip that :p.

Yeah I'm sure that can be arranged ;). Can we injure Morcombe first though :p.

Yeah, you deserve a 2nd seed though. You've done absolutely nothing wrong this season except if you want to be critical of the games against India and Bosnia where you were busy with other things :). The rest of the games have been well executed.
You should make Finland use U22's against your team to secure that 2nd seed ;).
2009-08-15 16:20:54
I actually hope that the team in 32nd place gets also the second seed, there should be more NT this time. I have my fingers crossed.

About the game against India and Bosnia - our strikers just missed most of their dead sure chances, that`s why such results.

That's a possibility if they extend to 16 groups instead of 15. Given there's a few that could potentially get a NT this season it might happen. Would be good for qualification too because there would be no scrap for those final few spots and it would be a clear top 2 from each group progress.

True come to think of it, hate those kind of games. They're even worse when the opposition gets 1 goal from their only chance and you end up losing or drawing despite dominating the game.
2009-08-17 08:59:53
I think it`s not a surprise I am running again for the second season - Now I know NT enough to be ready for the games in world cup qualification phase.

My speech will come later in another thread.
2009-08-18 11:52:00
Safe for a 2nd seed now ;). Congrats on achieving your objective.
2009-08-18 12:33:32
Thanks. Superb:)

Now would be perfect if we would get one of those new teams from 3rd seed to our group.

Indeed, or even getting a new team as a 3rd and 4th seed which is possible.

WC Qualification groups are out. New Zealand in Group L.

I like we got Suomi, we are going to play against them in 40 minutes. So will see how strong they are. However we are going to have problems beating Canada. Other three teams aren`t very easy also. Have prepare seriously for each game.

1. Suomi
2. New Zealand
3. Canada
4. Cymru
5. Paraguay
6. Shqipëria
