Today, the rematch :) We lost the last 1 with 2-1, very close, but today we have a big disadvantage...the NT coach of Canada know almost every defender of us, so also our weak points. I will try to do something about it...lets all support for our attackers :D
Injury for Dawkins in the first minutes...because of that 0-1 :(
I'm so unhappy with the 0-3 result. Gilbert didn't want so score today (against the great keeper from Canada). The tactic was good enough to win. I put our wingers more to the line and because of that I created more space to pass the ball to our attackers.
I think it was better today to play with Bodger at the center...but yeah it's a easy talk after the match :(

yeah I kinda have to agree. I didnt like the way our defenders were positioned. Unfortunately I'm not a strong believer in offside as I believe it is very risky and this match prooves exactly my point.
I counted 7 times the striker was one on one with the keeper. Three times he scored so our keeper was having a nice day, but one was with a nice through pass. It also shows the lack of technique and rounded defenders we have in New Zealand and how risky the defenders were positioned. Their strikers must have had some tackling.
So just my humble suggestion, since the NZ defenders aren't well rounded, we should play them like Barhilo's tactic. Very near the penalty box. This will allow us not to give away balls (due to lack of technique) far away from the goal.
Our pursue of the elimination stages is still burning strong and I believe we can make it. In third place

I agree with every bit of this, i never liked any offside tactic, half the time is because its usually my strikers are the ones offside, but the other half is because i dont like trusting my defenders.

Dear god.. following a tactic of mine? :P I do that so if one defender makes an error, another can try to tackle the defender again, mind i do have reasonable pace on my defenders..
I dont believe Bodger would have played well in the middle, i think having Bodger and Hird on the sides of the middle (ie, not having a forward straight in the middle) worked best for us in the old days, and perhaps having a secondary striker behind them to sometimes feed the ball when necessary (and take due glory too) but as an experimentation.. we have very quality strikers and i believe they are being under-utilized. I have found Bodger having less room than usual, sometimes it may be the quality of the defenders, but sometimes he is placed too close to defenders.
Otherwise, i think we were very unlucky not to score a goal, and very unlucky to have lost Dawkins, one of the few rounded defenders we have.
Also, Bodger was caught making some bad decisions, someone should have a word to his trainer to give him a bit more playmaking

I think you forgot something. By putting the defenders near the pelanty box you fix 1 problem and that's counter attacks. You creat other problems with doing that like distance shots.
How can we stop distance shots? by our great keeper Alves? sorry, but he can't stop them all.
2nd problem, how do you want to attack? I know most of the defenders passing...and I think, most of the New Zealand managers know that we have a problem with that. I can put them near the box, so they can kick the ball outside for a corner kick. Canada only need to pass to the right attacker in the box to score.
3th problem, you creat more space on the midfield. I'm looking for playmakers that can run 90minutes and that have enough pace, enough passing, etc. ...
If you forget the problems after the injury from Dawkins, you see nice offensif football from our team. We played very well you know. Alot of chances in the pelanty box but I can't kick them in the goal :)
Conclusion: I just want to say that I know the risks of playing offside. And I wouldn't play it every week, maybe next week again ... so Mexico can guess how we would play :)

Yeah, Bodger didn't get enough space today, but I can't help that if the opponent put there defenders in the box.
The reason why I can place him at the center is that he can put his header against the ball...and he has more chance to score then Gilbert.
Edit: I'm working on some tactics. I hope I can count on most of the A squad players....

When you start playing defenders too far back, and your opponent has decent strikers, you will find they take a lot of long shots, and can score from those sort of positions.
When you start playing defenders too far out, and your opponent has decent strikers, you will find they do a lot of tackles and outrun the defenders and have easy one on ones with the keeper!
I'm not suggesting to put the defenders way down into the penalty box but certainly not way up too. And for offense wise, I suggest to play the strikers not so wide apart. Maybe two really up front and then one striker slightly behind the two.
Just my humble suggestion
