Indeed, you're only a good coach if you beat Australia ;)

you're*

I've yet to come across an aussie that can beat me, even my friendly team!

I'm going off topic here for a moment :p. That run will come to an end :p.

Back on topic from myself now:

You have a great chance of making the top 2 3rd place finishes. As already stated Brasil don't have any easy finish and our own finish (Australia) isn't particularly easy either.

Good luck against India and in achieving the goals.

ah, found a remedy to Bodger have we? he'll be fully healed by our game ;)
2007-05-30 14:38:43
Howarth can easily defeat Bodger.

Is it opposite day over in England? :)

New Zealand could conceivably finish ahead of Australia. Both look likely to finish with 21 points. Right now Australia's goal differential is +23 to New Zealand's +18, but New Zealand stands to make up some ground there.

As for the Australia match, I am looking forward to it. Seems a right of passage for the New Zealand manager. :P Unfortunately it is scheduled for the week before the World Cup begins - might have some line-up implications for both sides.
2007-06-05 04:42:07
I always set a line-up on Monday, but don't usually send Manager-messages until Thursday. Sent the messages early this week.

The only question mark (at this point) is Richards, whose form is abysmal. If it moves the wrong direction, Robben may take his spot.

India played uber defensive in their last match against Canada. If they hadn't taken a red card, they may have caused the Canucks some grief. I'm expecting a similar formation from them this weekend.
2007-06-05 08:24:36
Don't worry, all Indian arrows are on the match next week against Japan to reach a third place.

Players close to a suspension are rested and I may try some young players from bot-teams, to get them on the transferlist and discover their skills that way.

*Eyes De Generaal suspiciously.*

;)

Sounds quite reasonable. :) I suspect I would do the same in your situation.
2007-06-09 06:26:03
Generaal, i think you give away too much of your strategy!!

Unfortunately i wont be here for tonights match either.. i wanna see De Bodger start to debodgify again! Going to town to celebrate a mate's 18th though. Al_Thore, would be great to see you in town! I know bball is too young :P

Underway.

3-4-3 this time round. Snowy11 suggested it the last time New Zealand played India. If it works, it’s my credit for listening. If it doesn’t, blame Snowy11. :P

Diamond midfield, so not expecting a great deal of wing play - looking to take most of the play up the middle. Atkinson takes freebies, Bodger penalties. Kelly covers the back-line in case of expulsion. Matthews & Chadwick expected around 60. Root gets a leg stretch ~ 80.

Nice showing by the lads. The squad moved the ball fairly well, and the shot selection was pretty good.

Tho Hird scored 4, I wouldn't say he had a good game. Anything that wasn't a tap in into an open net seemed to be an adventure. Gilbert and Bodger both played well. Chadwick didn't bring much spark off the bench.

Richards was the weak link in what was otherwise a pretty smooth midfield performance. Suspected as much with his poor form. In retrospect, probably should have started Matthews (who played very well in this one) and used Richards as the 60th minute sub.

Defence and keeper weren't tested much, but looked good when they were.

The goal differential boost should help in the race for 3rd seeding in the World Cup.

Nice win. Very handy goal difference as well. All starting strikers bagged hattricks. Never really looked troubled either.

Action isn't done today - I'll edit this once it is. Ranking of the 3rd place teams with 1 week to go. Brasil threw off my projections by clobbering Belgium today.

Rank ... Nation ... Group ... Points ... GD ... Final Opponent
1. Brasil ... K ... 19 ... +25 ... (Shqipëria)
2. Colombia ... I ... 18 ... +29 ... (Netherlands)
3. New Zealand ... J ... 18 ... +28 (Moldova)
4. Australia ... B ... 18 ... +21 ... (Ireland)
5. Sweden ... G ... 17 ... +21 ... (Belarus)
6. Mexico ... C ... 16 ... +19 ... (Austria)
7. Hungary ... D ... 16 ... +9 ... (Peru)
8. Chile ... A ... 16 ... +24 ... (South Africa)
9. Russia ... F ... 15 ... +2 ... (Paraguay)
10. Portugal ... E ... 12 ... +25 ... (Hayastan)
11. Wales ... H ... 12 ... -17 ... (Israel)

So if Colombia is ahead of New Zealand by 1 goal, putting New Zealand 3rd in the list. Colombia does have the Netherlands in the final week - very good chance New Zealand can climb to 2nd best 3rd place team which would give a 3rd seed in the World Cup.
