Final revisions are done for the Australia match.

Team form is breath-taking (in a good way) right now. I don't think it's ever been better. Morcombe is the only one of the best 11 that is a little off. Even A Richards, who was at the tragic end of the spectrum for 5-6 seasons has made it to divine form over the past month. Awesome. Good news for this weekend, and hopefully for qualifications next season.

Edwards is suspended, but Watts is back from suspension. Otherwise, no notable roster ... notes.

within 19 minutes the game starts :p. Good luck Seca. Go New Zealand :p!

could be interesting given we're missing 3 key players to injury and a further handful of players from poor form. Hopefully it's a good game.

very good pressure of nz in the begin.

first chance of australia: goal :(.

0-2 (nz deserved a goal, when the keeper of AUS was a little faster than the attackers)

nice goals :p 1-2 of NZ

It's a bloodbath. 4-1. I'm off to bed. Will watch the rest tomorrow.

Poor tactic from me. Cometer knows that I believe 5 at the back is an absolute necessity to win at the NT level with the current ME. So I thought he might not ram Willis down the wing. I changed up and went with 4 hoping to surprise. Not smart. Willis is destroying Watts (my fault for the narrow positioning).

THought I'd take advantage of the "smarter" dribbling, but Gilbert isn't doing anything but straight at the net. The uber-deep Australia defense is working fantastic. I can't play that way without giving up 30 shots. :P

Anyway, here's hoping it ain't 8-1 when I get up. :)

You came back at the end there when Nikas went off and Mangos got slightly injured.

My actual aim was expecting a flat back 5 as you suggested and there's space in between the outside def and the wing back def to run through, so I dropped Willis and Timpano back a fraction to take punt shots through those holes. Actually, I expected the press too which makes it even more of a problem if I start my strikers running through those holes earlier as it just sits up to Willis saying hit me and he follows suit.

Sitting deep works wonders, particularly when you've got reasonably fast defenders to be able to quickly charge before they shoot, or to snuff out any through ball. Also is a guarantee winner if people expect the defense to push up a bit as they retreat their strikers and by playing deep they can't get around the defenders anymore.

Still glad you missed in the 90th there. Expected a few sloppy goals conceded as it was a completely new tactic from myself hoping to exploit weaknesses I saw.

What a miss by Gilbert. Thought it was going to be a classic comeback. I think Seca did exactly what i tried against Australia by using 4 defenders, the result was the same. Destruction down the wing.

Yeah subbing Nikas was probably not the smartest move in the end.In saying that it could well have been 5 or 6 to 1 before they started that comeback, we missed a few chances as they did.

Again our strength lies in using Willis as a winger and I play accordingly. This time I tried to look for other alternatives rather than the high winger as that's markable and will be marked as soon as teams realize that leaving it unmarked is asking for trouble. There are ways to guard the wing with a back 4 but it requires a lot of pace.

The defensive structure has taken seasons of tweaking to get to where it is, need more tweaking though, need to cut out wing play faster whilst still being in position in the box in case a cross comes in. Yet another close game, although it was looking like a landslide at one point.

that's indeed the way to do it, tweaking and more tweaking, i must say it was an intresting game to watch :)
