Indeed. :)

An interesting game today was Portugal - England. Partly because it's a good match-up, and partly because Portugal used a similar formation (at least in the defense and midfield) to what New Zealand tried today.

Chile - Peru gets underway in a few moments.

I see Chile as the favourite. Yes, Peru won their group, but I would argue their best player in qualifying was Saco Vertiz, their keeper, which usually isn't a good sign. Vertiz is SI today, and one of their better midfielders (Malbernat) is suspended.

SPOILER - don't read if you plan to watch Chile - Peru.

Result worked out almost as well as it could of (1-0 Peru would have been slightly better). Chile was arguably the better side until the red card. Chile's manager, almost inconceivably, did not red-card protect his central defender. Given the huge hole in the line, it seemed only a matter of time before Peru scored the winner.

So, as I calculate things, New Zealand still has some life. A +3 victory over Peru (no easy task) would vault New Zealand ahead of them. Lithuania would concurrently need to humiliate Chile (7-0). Not out of the realm of reason. :)

Any help greatly appreciated. :)

New Zealand isn't the only team having trouble with red cards. Germany took 2 straight reds last week against Argentina, and 3 more straight reds today against Canada. Surreal.
