i really want o know what you did to lady luck with all the red cards and injuries you've got for NZ and Valiant FC this season.. so i know what not to do =p
Hmm .... well I did kick that puppy last week. Oh, and then they was that picnic in the graveyard - mustard all over the tombstone. (JK - be nice to animals and respect your ancestors kids!).
For whatever reason WC seasons seem to be difficult for me. The previous WC I was manager of Team Canada - at the time I considered defense to be the strength of the team. Figured whatever else happened, the defense would be ok. But by the 3rd game of the WC 4 starters were out, along with 2 of the best back-ups. :S
As you pointed out, this season's been a little rough on my club too. My super winger's been injured twice. My best all-round defender, a valuable midfielder and the starting keeper have all been out due to injury. 3 of my 4 team Canada strikers have missed training due to injury. :S On the bright side, next season is WC qualifying, so if the pattern holds, it should be relatively pain free. :D

Part of my motivation for participating in the Copa America was to attempt a little redemption after the problem-filled WC. Chile as the next opponent offers that opportunity. (Of course I'd hoped the roster would be in better shape for the rematch, but no worries).
Was able to come up with solutions for the props, but haven't marked the submissions yet.
Costa Rica Results
1. Bodger will score more goals then Costa Rica.
Yes. Bodger with 5 compared to Costa Rica’s 1.
2. Gilbert will score more goals then Bodger.
No. Bdoger 5 to Gilbert’s 1. Bodger looked the more dangerous and managed to last almost twice as long.
3. A New Zealand midfielder will score a goal.
No. New Zealand midfielders registered 6 shots (Root 4, Sansom & Atkinson 1 each). Root had the best opportunities (including a PK!) But did not convert.
4. New Zealand will be shown more offside flags then Costa Rica.
No. By my count Costa Rica was flagged 4 times to New Zealand’s 1. My mind did drift a few times while I was re-watching tho. :)
5. A New Zealand defender will get an assist.
No. Dawkins provided a couple of beauty passes that were wasted. For the most part, the defense fed the midfield rather then the strikers (as they were supposed to).
6. New Zealand will score a restart goal (penalty, direct FK, corner or immediately after a throw-in).
No. Had opportunities for all of these, but did not convert any. The goals resulted from nice build up, defense miscues, or were “second chance” opportunities.
7. New Zealand will incur 2 or more cards (any colour).
No. New Zealand players were too busy getting injured to get booked.
8. New Zealand will have a territorial advantage of at least 55%.
Yes. Tactic was intended to push play into Costa Rica’s half - where 74% took place.
9. Taylor will have a clean sheet.
No. Wasn’t really tested - only 1 shot on target. Muffed a pass off a FK which ricocheted straight to a Costa Rica striker.
10. New Zealand will have more un-assisted goals then assisted goals.
Yes. A couple of players (Matthews a couple of times, Root) were robbed of an assist by a slight opposition touch.
Tie breaker: total goals scored in match = 8

lol smiles around, but u have to get it all right now to draw,
And hope that Wivak doesn't return to his usual form. :)
I noticed on my second watch of the match that all 3 New Zealand injuries occurred as the player attempted a tackle. A little unusual that all 3 would go down this way.

i was sure the bodger injury happened when he was being tackled.. will re-check
This weekend's match has hit a little snag.
Though New Zealand finished second and has earned the home match, Chile's manager has decided he would prefer the match to be played in Chile as it is a more conveinient time for him.
Chile's match time is not conveinient for me (this weekend), nor do I believe it is all that conveinient for New Zealanders.
I'm also not in any hurry to take the team back to Chile considering how the referee treated the squad the last time it was there. :D
New Zealand earned the home match. I'm not inclined to concede home field.

We've got the home match, and also the earliest match time. No reason to be played at Chile at all.
Edit: My view is that you send the invitation to play in NZ w/ cup rules, let the organiser know and if Chile doesn't accept, we get an automatic win.

:) Done and done. Invitation was sent Sunday morning. I messaged the organizer as soon as the problem became clear - mostly because the Chilean manager's English is about as good my Spanish. If we both spoke the same language, I'd have been more confident thw two of us could work it out.
I'm quite certain it won't come to a scratched match. Just a little posturing perhaps. :)

The game is on. Took some convincing.
Besides being an inconvenient time, it seems this was also a matter of principle - the Chilean manager was opposed to playing a Copa America match outside the Americas (strange he didn't mention that until now) Perhaps that's something they add to the rules for next time.

When people dont mention it at the start its usually because they only just made it up. Glad to see you didn't fold =]
Have a tactic set. Things have been slow this week, in part because I wanted to see what players would heal up. And in part because I am of many minds how to approach this match. :P
Hoping for a good showing. That would make me feel better after that awful World Cup match. I still think the concept behind the WC match tactic was ok - but that my execution of it was poor. It didn't help that everything that could possibly go wrong did go wrong. :P A little better luck this time round wouldn't hurt.
Not posting the line-up - sending messages to managers of involved players. Some are conditional - I may still change my mind. :)
