Subject: Youth school
Actually I have, the 1 000 000 $ I mentioned were those 5 %. Add up several times? Yes ,if you can sell a lot of juniors and get lucky so they will be resold. As I mentioned I am not really that lucky. The 1 000 000 $ is mostly from one youth that was sold twice after he left me.
But still as I said for me the whole school is still worth it.
@steelers: Yes he was expensive, just checked again, I now have a cheaper one which cost about 39 175 $
But I wouldnt mind to have one much more expensive again, as soon as I have more funds. I belive in sublevel for coaches:)

i closed mine last night simply to save myself from going bankrupt. When my finances are more stable near the end of the season, I'll reopen my YS. I didn't have anything really decent as far as prospects went anyways. And for the first time since my first few weeks in SK, I made a profit from sponsorship versus player/coach/stadium expenses.
Up til now, I've been running roughly a 50 000 $ deficit per two weeks and then earning that back twofold when I had homegames. That will be bringing me 700 000 $ or so for a full season which is a great start towards getting a new trainee/1st teamer

What would you call a good prospect?
Well I show you my 4 players which were in my opinion worth keeping. Please let me know if you had so too.

Lol I had my fair share of alcohol last weekend.
That's my point I'm fed up with running the team in the ground every week.
To make a profit and see it in the bank every season, to me this has more security than playing luck with juniors
Out of curiosity how much sponsor money do you get in div II

I must admit - the security of £500k+ guaranteed every season, to spend on a new youth player becomes more & more enticing to me
I have not had any great Junior pulls ever, so the £500k+ that goes into my Junior School every season has not been a good investment
If you are lucky with pulls - that's great. But how many Managers are that lucky?
Certainly Lady Luck has deserted me, when it comes to junior pulls

i've looked closer at my figures and I would say i need to average £32k per youth sale to break even. with a couple of reasonable sales in the season plus a bunch of mediocre ones i am managing that easily, so i don't think there is a big issue from a financial point of view. i have around 20+ places most of the time and a magical YC. as phil has pointed out, resale payments are often forgotten when managers calaculate their income, and these can definitely add up on the younger graduates. i would say any youth worth keeping, especially now final age is known, should be able to reach £30k sale price minimum, and then one or 2 at £150k ish per season would leave a decent profit.
my very simplified maths:
average 20 youths at 20 weeks per youth = £12,000 place (£600x20) + £20,000 appx. coach (£20,000 / 20 youths x 20 weeks) = £32,000
my very simplified maths:
average 20 youths at 20 weeks per youth = £12,000 place (£600x20) + £20,000 appx. coach (£20,000 / 20 youths x 20 weeks) = £32,000
sounds simple when you put it like that :)
i'm wondering what the cheapest youth coach i can get away with and still make money.
i will be lowering assistant coaches to save some more money, i feel like I'm on a recession lol
my best youth sale seams a million miles away now. Hope he sells him soon :P

I've only just promoted to II and I get 145k a week. I presume more established teams get a fair bit more?

145k mmmmmmm......... i might close it down this season and re-open it when i get to div2 but only buy a formidable youth coach and keep minimum spaces open.
I got a mighty 154k
the fans are a bit miffed about the cup though

just re-read that mate.
TBH your lucky to pull a youth every week.
i get major droughts where it may be another 10 weeks until i pull anything.
Just out of curiosity how are you doing financially? as i remember you were heavily in debt at one point.
i reckon i should hire Phil as an accountant, probably couldn't afford him though ;)

i thought premiership was more than that. :S
i got 106k this week and TBF for 2 leagues difference there's not much in it.

I got 174k a couple of weeks ago - I haven't had 'madly in love' for seasons.
Why these big droughts in youths - maybe the thread should concentrate less on the good and bad points of youths in general and focus on the suboptimal way you run yours? ;)

That's what i'm now thinking mate.
I've been looking at some cheap excellent/formidable assistants to replace my current incredible's/brilliant.
i need to make sure i'm at least in the money on a home match and not suffering to much from wages.
if i can make up the money loss on a Saturday from a friendly that would be awesome. obviously need to add a bit of fluctuation though for when the fans go loopy.
any ideas on how i should run the youth school, say if i get a excellent/formidable coach with about 10 spaces. don't really want to risk losing more.

From what you've said, it seems as though your financial problems have stemmed from a failure to train players long-term, and having spent far too much on assistant coaches. If it's a choice between:
Three incredible/brilliant assistants @ ~£15k per week (total £45k)
OR
Three excellent/formidable assistants @ ~£5k p/w (£15k)
One incredible/brilliant youth coach @ ~£15k p/w
25 spaces in the youth school @ £15k p/w
Then the latter gets my vote. Improving the assistants beyond formidable is a luxury IMO. Proper training, over time, provides a steady source of income - which can be used to subsidise dry spells in the youth school.
If you're genuinely sick of the y/s then cut it completely. Running it on a minimal budget only seems worthwhile if you'll produce a few youths for your own training - to maximise selling potential you want the best youth coach you can afford. You could cut all 18 and 17yo and see if you pick up some decent 16yo though?
