If I'm honest, that's a tactic I use a lot, with minor derivations. A lot of the best managers seem to use 5-3-1-1, but I prefer the kind of 5-3-2 outlined above.

got my vote mate, the least i can do for you ;)

My decision between you and jpk is based upon the answer of this question. Thanks for taking time to answer it. :)

Good luck to both of you for the remainder of your campaign.

You would never win against me me, as I would always surprise you ;-)

So lets move on to a specific example:

What do you think Ermejo did wrong/right in our latest Game? Given my tactics (pretend you know in advance), how would you set up England to make sure you would have won?

Hint: Do not get up quickly after comments like this!

You would never win against me me, as I would always surprise you ;-)

All in jest, never is a long time.

He wouldn't win more than 1/2 out of 100 ;-)

Anyone can beat you at NT level!

Not gonna happen. :)

Yes is is this really serious this time?

I find it really difficult to take you seriously from your opening speech.

"You leave me no option etc"

What was going through your mind when you wrote your opening gambit?

Also what do you intend to teach us with you in charge?

Sorry I didn't get back to this earlier, I nearly lost in in the banter :)...

* Not much use of the wings by USA in this tactic, except maybe at throw-ins. Maybe a tight back 4, or more likely a back 5 similar to that of the USA lineup, as 3 in the middle often allows the central defender to mop up any tackles missed by the other 2 central defenders.

* Very small gap between USAs' midfield and defence when in their own half - I would aim to place my midfield half a square behind your midfield, and play the best defensive midfield 3 I had available. This way I could get tackles in and hit you on the counter attack, while looking for through balls / balls out to a winger.

* 10 English offsides suggests playing the forwards and winger a tad too deep. Given that I would play 5 defenders, that would leave 1 on the wing, and 1 up front, who would be running into gaps between central defenders and the players to their immediate left / right. The aim of this would be to stop you scoring, and win by the odd goal.

I now expect you to give the right answer Phil :)...

Yes, really serious - I can do this job, and have done it before. A near-miss with the Premiership and an undefeated season with the 3rd best rated team in my league suggests I can do this quite well, although I have had a lot of time to practice getting it right.

"What was going through your mind when you wrote your opening gambit?"

To offer something different than the usual "Hi ! I am insert name here and I would like to take insert name of country here to success in the insert name of football tournament here" blah that comes with 98% of all election speeches. If you look in sokker international you'll see that some of the time they even insert the wrong name of country into the insert name of country bit ! I wrote something that amused me, a talking point to start from ( apparent apathy for the job from new applicants) and something that I thought might amuse others. And I'd guess that most of the voting public know what they're getting from this particular forum spammer anyway.

In other words, a bit of fun really. It is a game, after all :)...
Also what do you intend to teach us with you in charge?

@Truffs

This was an attempt at self-deprecating humour. If I get in, and get 2 seasons in charge, hopefully there will be a clamour from other managers to take the job to stop me getting in again.

But I suspect you realise this ?

Sound pretty dangerous to me...Good effort.

I don't know which of our answers (mine or jpks) is the better one as I can see merit in both, I get a feeling wingers will still get stuck on your full-backs, and that some top-notch defensive midfielders could turn your guys over and create chances for a lone man. But sharing opinions on tactics are part of the fun of the game for me - should I win the election I'd be encouraging people to share their opinions on how we should play the games, as we have more than enough good coaches here for a decent discussion - which should get more people involved in the NT set-up again.
