i agree that the forums seem to be less used now, i think it has in part to do with losing long standing managers who used to be quite vocal. Also managers like woppa who are still playing the game but dont post as much. Its a shame really, but it is just the way it goes sometimes.

i would scout his team and tactics and then go from there to start with, but i am also a great believer in just picking the team that i think will get the job done no matter who it is against. maybe he should be worried bout us and maybe trying to pick a tactic to counter one that I may use.

One of the things that I will bring in from my last turn in charge is that i believe in having high def skill mids, sometimes I would pick players that have higher def and lower passing and pm to players with high passing and pm and less def skill. The reason for this is that midfield is where most games are won or lost, if you can control that area you have a higher chance of winning the game.

Also i bought in defs with high pace and def with perhaps lower secondaries, as long as they can run and tackle to a very high level i wasnt too worried bout if the could pass so much. i am not sure what level the defenders are at in englands nt at the moment, but it is something that i would look at straight away.

and just by ratings alone I am sure that the strikers that are available now are better than the ones we had when i was last in charge too.

i believe that ratings arent everything and that good tactics and correct players for the right games win you games, simple as that.

His fav formation is usually a very high 5 man def with either 2 strikers and a wing or 2 strikers and 3 mids. How would you counter that? Sorry to be specific but NCN attempted a more direct answer. ;)

bah!

I will answer it later on as i have to go take my car to the garage now!!!

That's one thing we can agree on - I try to have a decent defender rating all over the pitch. I'd be more likely to sacrifice passing / pm for defender centrally than I would be on the wing though.

I like unusual hats...

Of course, i only meant in central areas. Wingers will have to have pace, tech, pm and passing at very high levels to get in.

Right here goes.

It is always going to be a chance that he will use at least 1 winger, and not knowing what side he would choose i would have to go with 5 at the back, but the two full backs would be wider than normal and slightly forward of the rest of the defs, this will enable them an earlier chance to snuff out the wingers threat.

3 at the back in the center would be a must, but maybe have a very fast wider 2 of the three with high def and not so much secondaries (unless such defs exist with max pace, def and good secondaries). The middle of the back three to be slightly better secondaries but still near max def and pace.

i would play 2 mids with very high def and good passing and pm to enable us to get the ball up to my 2 strikers/1 striker and 1 winger/2 wingers. The wingers and strikers would depend on what players i would have available at the time of the match.

hope this is a bit better as a example :)

Thats more like it. Now I can compare your thoughts..... ;)

My decision between you and NCN is based upon the answer of this question. Thanks for taking time to answer it. :)

Good luck to both of you for the remainder of your campaign.

You would never win against me me, as I would always surprise you ;-)

So lets move on to a specific example:

What do you think Ermejo did wrong/right in our latest Game? Given my tactics (pretend you know in advance), how would you set up England to make sure you would have won?
2010-04-01 18:13:27
had i known what tactic you were going to use I would have done the following to combat your tactic.

I would have still played 4 at the back, but I would have played them alot closer together, this would allow the defence to double up on each striker almost. Seeing as you would have played no wingers there would be no threat down the wings, so no need to have the back 4 so spaced out.

Would have played 3 in center mid, but not so advanced so they would have a chance to get off passes to other players in space. 2 very wide wingers hogging the sideline, as i noticed that the two full backs were pushed more infield, this would give them a fighting chance to get wide and get crosses in.

1 striker as it would be more important to get wide imo, more chance of creating chances that way. Would have at least two of the 3 mids pushing on to support the lone striker in the box, so they would need a decent level of striker hopefully. also you played a very high def line, so I would choose to play my wingers slightly behind my striker, but making my tactic so the striker is right on the line of the defence when they pushed up.
