Subject: [NT] WCQ Vs South Africa

Tomorrow we take on South Africa in the biggest game of my NT reign so far. I consider South Africa to be our biggest threat to 2nd place, and if we can avoid defeat against them in our 2 matches we will go through to the WC Finals, its as simple as that imo.

They have a small user base but have some very well trained players. On a plus point, their strikers seem to all be in pretty bad form as do their mids, but that will make less of a difference. They seem to have some pretty good defenders so breaking them down is going to prove difficult.

I have set my team and tactic ready for the match, and I am very confident that we can gain a win.

Just watched the match, have to say that we were a touch lucky at times. They played a very imaginative def tactic that restricted our ability to thread the ball through to our strikers, they basically waited and waited then pushed their def line very high up the pitch so any balls through would have been called for offside. It worked very well for th and made it very hard to break them down, and they caught us a couple of times on the break with our keer pulling of 3 or 4 top saves to keep us in the match.

But saying that we did have more of the play, more chances including hitting the bar once and having a couple of headers flash just wide. I also expected them to play 1 winger so played 5 across the back, had I had known i would have played four at the back and made them a bit more compact to deal with their central strikers. Dexter for once was very ineffective as their defenders stopped him from running with the ball 90% of the time making him next to useless today.

Tried to play with defenders with better secondaries rather than just raw def and pace, worked well when attacking from the back, but got caught out a couple of times when we needed to defend.

Overall I thought it was an ok performance and we got lucky at times, but its the result that counts and we won 2-0. Simple really ;)
