He's being half mega, half rubbish.

The tactics for throw-ins need looking at.

Every attacking throw in results in the ball being thrown to Linekar, who has no-one to pass to, so he hoofs it either out for another throw in, or even worse, back down the pitch to the opposition...

That was a bit of an oddity. The idea of having it like it is, is so that he crosses it into the box (which he did do a few times).

It might be a matter of only having him try to do that in the final area, and not too early.

Still, 4-1 is pretty impressive, considering many thought that the game was going to penalties :D.

belgium - poland is still playing!

I'll assume Poland win that, which means we get Italy - who beat the dutch!

1. R. Lepore
Should have done more to stop the goal (too slow :(). Will be glad to have Hann back for the semis.
2. M. Malhan
Tidy performance.
3. C. Bridge
Didn't really have a whole lot to do, as they rarely got the ball central.
4. N. Close
Dominated his side of the defence.
5. T. Henchoz
Not as good as last week, but decent enough.
6. R. Devlin
Superb free kick got the game going, 2 assists says it all. Lacking defensively again, but made up for it in his offensiveness.
7. M. Tillbrant
Rock solid performance, helped us gain some good free kicks.

No impression.
8. B. Hulka
Solid, but unspectacular performance.
9. T. Lineker
Hero and villain. At times he was top banana, at others a rotten one. Still, his role was crucial and 2 assists shows that he did certainly have his moments.
10. J. Bevan
Scoring boots back on and a monster :D.
11. S. May
Got us started, but overshadowed by the Bevster.

Belgie lost in Extra Time to Poland. So unlucky. Great 7-0-3 tactics! (4-3-3?)

A great example of how tactics can influence this game.

In Hattrick it would have been a dead cert win - unless Poland PIC'd and they MOTS'd I guess.

Italy certainly had ridden their luck to the semis.

First match against Lietuva - won on penalties
2nd against Nederland - 3 SO for Ned

I blame Max myself ;).

England v Poland final Mr G? I think that whatever happens, to get to the world cup semi at the first attemp deserves a big pat on the back, well done indeed sir.

Well, hopefully that means we have a chance against them & therefore you've got a real chance of making the finals?

I think anything now is just a bonus, semis finals are a pretty good achievement.

However, I do realise this may be our best shot at the WC for some time, so will be gunning for the final. We've played Italy once, and lost 3-1, but that was a very long time ago now.

Today I've learned it is hard to win a match when you're playing without a central defense...
