i think it's the quality of our players to be honest.
i don't know the actual skills, but from average marks our midfield was a lot weaker than theirs. none of ours managed a mark of 50, they only had 1 below 50, so thats quite a big difference.

just had a look at the first half hour of the match, and it does seem player quality is a big part of it. they passed the ball well, whilst a lot of our passes weren't accurate enough and went out of play or to their players.

just my thoughts, but against the better teams where we have weaker players then make us hard to beat. play mids with higher def and tech, compared to other skills, so we can win the ball and not get tackled. maybe a 5 man midfield could be used, with 4 centre mids quite close to each other, so they play shorter passes which are more likely to go where intended, which would also make up for lower passing a bit.

True. But the lack of quality can be somehow compensated by some adequate tactics. At least having few attempts on goal, if not win.

54 is a fairly scary level for a team of 20.5 year olds. I doubt if Poland could manage that at the moment. We're not exactly blessed with tech mids it has to be said, our best winger was out for that match, and our best mid has only good form. Not to mention that for the first time in a long time, England might not have a 21 year old divine keeper, the current best 20 yo is magical.

Maybe England is apathetic about training English players now ? Can England prove me wrong ? Or is tom going to have to train all 11 players for next seasons' U-21 squad ? :)

You are having a really bad run lately in all seriousness, I have not watched the game but to not have 1 shot seems like something is seriously wrong tonight, I have played teams with more than 10 points less than me that have still managed a shot.

There may be a disparagy in skills of players but it is not huge, I feel there must have been something wrong with tonights tactics.

it does seem that we don't have that many trainers for our english players. you could count the number of people that train a few english players on one hand.
back when wdp was manager he kept saying we needed more decent strikers, and now we have a lot of good str's at each age level, so maybe people tried to then train more str's, but it seems the level of mids has now dropped.
since we don't have that many users, we will probably always have some shortage of players, unless more players are encouraged to be more involved with the nt and u21, but again that's difficult.
