Subject: [u-21] Friendly Vs Scotland

2011-02-24 22:48:02
Hi all

We're playing some kind of u-20 match against Scotland tomorrow. I'll be playing some u-18s and some u-19s, while Scotland will be playing u-20s.

I'd imagine we'd squeak a win, but we'll see.

Thats unlikely, Scotland are not that weak! - only when rtg managed them. ;)

I know you, wdp, mr_g & Kipper have your uber 18yo Mids, but I'd guess this lad is our most useful 18yo winger at present?

Murray Knifton, age: 18
solid stamina, hopeless keeper
excellent pace, unsatisfactory defender
excellent technique, excellent playmaker
solid passing, unsatisfactory striker

..if you're struggling for players ;)

Pretty good, I think Hunt is slightly better though.

I'll go for an all 18 year old midfield I think. As for 18 yo bragging rights, let's see what the others have got.

Here's mine :)

Terence Raine, age: 18
club: Norwich City Nil, country: England
value: 167 850 £, wage: 1 500 £
incredible form, good tactical discipline
height: 179 cm

weak stamina weak keeper
solid pace solid defender
excellent technique very good playmaker
solid passing excellent striker

William Purefoy, age: 18

club: Mcoi, country: England
value: 169 650 £, wage: 1 410 £
divine form, adequate tactical discipline
height: 172 cm

unsatisfactory stamina hopeless keeper
average pace excellent defender
excellent technique very good playmaker
very good passing very good striker

I think yours has 1 more total skill than mine.
2011-02-25 11:01:59
...and I think yours goes at the base of the diamond :).

At present, Murray gets the subs bench and 30 minutes of glory in the second half steelers :).

Bugger. I knew you all had more rounded mids, but I'm still hoping Knifton may find room on the wing by the time he's 21.

The big shame is that the WC finals are when they're all 20, not 21.

PS: Just noticed Norway were runners up this year - it makes your dire group effort look slightly less shabby now (only slightly though) :)

We just ran out of luck, at least that's my excuse. 3 best strikers out of form, best striker injured for 3 weeks after the first match, best defenders out of form, no winger to speak of. You tell me how you make a winning team out of that :).
2011-02-25 11:11:17
C'mon you need to re-read the rules...

Your job is to win the WC (anything less is a travesty given our stellar footballing pedigree), whilst my job is to heckle mercilessly from the sidelines (whilst offering no constructive advice).

Clear now? :)

Edit: On reflection what England really need is a manger who has proven pedigree working with the young 'uns, overcoming any obstacle to win week after week - someone like the top manager in the English Junior Leagues...

Put your hat in and see what happens :). If I can win 2 seasons at this job, then it's open to anyone.
Here's the line-up for the match against Scotland - a midfield made up of 18 year olds, the rest are 19.

1 Jim Dennis GK
2 Scottie Whatley DEF
3 Fred Eddy DEF
4 Stephan Rossall DEF
5 Lenny Viccars DEF
6 Steve Hunt MID
7 William Purefoy MID

2011-02-25 11:43:43
oh well - didn't know about Baxter!
2011-02-25 11:45:30
He is bloody handy for his age to be fair :). Cue wdp moaning about wrixon not getting a start, although he's slower than my mums' mobility scooter...
