Hi all

I'm running again, to ensure that Tom gets a decent challenge in the election, and because I consider that we were extremely unlucky in this seasons' World Cup, which is something I'd like to put right if I'm given the chance.

We finished top of the group in the qualifiers with 2 games to spare, beating some decent teams along the way.

Sadly the current crop of 21 year olds weren't in the same class as the 21 year olds in the qualifying season, those that were trained to a good level were either out of form, injured or both for the key games at the start of this season, with our best striker picking up a 3 week injury in the first World Cup game, and our best defenders struggling with low form, which led to defenders being picked from the second tier of ability. Also there was only one winger of note, who with hindsight did not have the technique / pace to compete at the level.

Despite this, we outshot Norway in the second group game, only for them to convert 6 shots with 4 goals, beating us 4-1.

In the friendlies against the top 5 teams we have managed to beat Belgium 4-0 with u-19s and draw with Italy with u-20s. We also got unlucky with sending offs against Hungary and Poland, holding Hungary 0-0 until we went a man down. The National team rating has gone down as a result of picking tough teams to play against, and indeed by playing younger players against weaker teams, but we should remain in "Pot 2" for the qualifiers, assuming we get results against Malta and Wales, and the longer-term benefits of getting coaches involved with the NT should outweigh the short-term loss of rating, which should be clawed back next season in the qualifiers when England will pick its best team.

Whoever gets the job will have a group crop of young players to pick from, I'd like to think that my scouting efforts and use of u20, u19 and u18 matches in friendlies have helped in a small way to improve the population of players to pick from, and that next seasons' manager needs to continue to communicate with the coaches of the 18, 19, and 20 yo players as they come through, aswell as the 21 year olds.

ncn out!

What do you feel needs to happen in relation to enable the quality of players within Englands NT continue?

I'll answer the question I think you meant to ask, which is "How do we get people to continue to train and update between 21-28", when players start to be NT worthy, unless they are Benstead or some other freak of nature.

The simple answer is to communicate to as many coaches as possible, and beg them for updates. Also to link to the NT database at every opportunity. Like I just did :).

Another fair point, I will answer / ask more later. ;)

No doubt you are a good and fair coach. And you were most unlucky last season and we acknowledge that.
2 Seasons ago when Tom ran against you I told him he will have my vote in 2 seasons time and now 2 season's have passed.
Maybe you should give the NT a go?

Ignore the suggestion about NT cause I just found WDP is running again for his second term.

Dear ncn,

You are running for all the right reasons.

You are running because you have experience for the job, know your way around the international team, already know the contacts that any other new coach will have to work at getting and tracking.

I think you did a good job last time around and think you can do the same again.

International management on SK seems to be as much about organisation as it does about the actual tactics and game. Certainly there are people that think others should do the job and it is their right to vote as they wish but personally I will vote for you because I think you are the best candidate for the job.

In many ways it is a shame it is the England job you are up for because, just like in real life, English fans always think their team is a lot better than it actually is. We are a small nation with a small pool of players. We do exceptionally well on here because of tactics and not because we have the best players and I always vote for England staff on here for who i think can tactically outwit the opponent.

Very kind Jaize, but having resigned, it was 10 votes to Tom against mine and some other blokes. I've never been that fond of humiliation :).

the future ex-Mrs ncn threatened to sue if I even suggested such a thing.

Is this the bit where I fall over something, and then Nelson Muntz walks on and says "Ha Ha" ?
