Subject: The League 3 trap
Maybe you guys should start a new topic "The Coach Select Button Trap". Keep this topic on topic then...
I think people get unreasonably over-protective of thread topics.
What do you guys think ?

Certainly worth a discussion, but not here we might get told off ;-)
Well in games like hattrick they certainly do. In this thread though is some postings from managers who rarely post and are very relevant to their own situation.
Now the thread has been taken over by a div 2, nearly div 1 manager and a manager who had relegated to div 4 with like unearthly strikers almost boasting about how much cash they can waste on coach select.
Just worried that they will stop newer/quieter managers posting about their div3 experiences.

Nearly div 1 I wish lol
I went quiet on the forums for about a year, if people don't want to speak they won't no matter what we say.
The English forum has never really been lively anyway.
As for getting stuck in div III I think I done 13 seasons before promotion.
Edit: 13 seasons oh dear hahaha

Pah..
'a manager who had relegated to div 4 with like unearthly strikers almost boasting about how much cash they can waste on coach select'..
Guilty as charged. Although I would say I am referring to how much cash I did actually waste as a relatively new side.
I stand by my contention that investment in a youth school and a training regime is the way to get out of III, or IV for that matter (off topic though that may be...), which at some point involves getting coaches..

I don`t have any problems with the youth school comments and the training. I also think it would be good to read about the coach select button and how much that has cost people. It does seem to be quite addictive.
You certainly are a div 3 manager though you could be heading back to div 4 soon I see.
I don`t really have too much issue about somerset1386`s thread being hijacked but it would be nice to see what other managers think.
Back on topic then.. :)
I'd personally say to somerset1386 that relegation to IV and the chance of promotion to an easier III would be the way to go, as part of a larger plan, assuming that getting to II is the aim.
Given my time again, I think I would rather pay for coaches on the transfer market and not worry about shaving a few k off the wages, than spend a fortune hoping for the perfect random pick via the magic button.
I do think it is worth pointing out that it is not necessarily a concern if income from crowds and sponsors is (considerably) less than expenses, as long as money is generated elsewhere, through player development, either from a youth school (ideal, in my opinion, as was mentioned above - sell-on fees can be very useful) or from purchased trainees.
I would say that fans are irrelevant. The peasants are always revolting and when (as seems likely with my downward trend), I have got rid of all of them, my club will still make money. This is probably an extreme opinion, but for a new side I would say forget all about performance and focus on development.
Fiscal prudency doesn't mean too much, either in the real football world, or in this virtual one. I would contend.
Edit:
AH - Just been trawling (trolling, perhaps) through the transfer records of a few longstanding sides currently in III, and I am surprised by the amount of negative balances. Perhaps I need to reconsider my position above, since weekly income is clearly more important than I thought..
Oops.

I am £10m in the plus but still stuck in div III. That is about to increase again with my next sell off but I am more likely to go down than up!!
NCFC [del] to
BuzzyL
With £10m - you could get out of divIII & up to div II if you wanted to
Agree with NCFC... you just need to spend the money wisely and I am sure you will be up in Div II in one season. 10 million is more than enough to get the right players mix and not compromise your training and selling.
Sorry. Didn't make myself clear. Following on from eirikr's post my overall transfer balance is plus £10m. I currently have £3m in the bank. As you said I just need to spend it wisely
Wow, the amounts of money in this thread! I've never made anything like that on anyone, or been able to invest those sorts of sums. No wonder I think training juniors stinks. i still do, having read this thread. I still think its too expensive for what you get out of it unless you are turning over a shedload of cash. I guess if I risked everything and stopped buying new players and maybe sold some old ones I could stake it all on building a junior squad to become a quality senior squad in maybe another... ooohh.. 6-9 seasons. That's a long time to be losing because of some 60+ rated goalkeeper against my 50+ rated strikers, as happened yet again on Sunday. I may call it a day. Its so much easier if you can increase your turnover but winning is the only way to do this, and you need money to get the better players to win with.
Agree. I think I have had one really good junior and he has been everpresent in my team. A few good ones but the majority are cack. Still for us optimists there is always that golden egg hiding out there somewhere
*don't you agree Rob?*

Don't give up fella.
Now I'm not saying this is a guaranteed way out, but what I done for a couple of seasons is ditched the junior school.
I spent spare cash on the stadium to accumulate some cash. I trained older players aswell as a couple of youngsters I had.
The set up I had was a brilliant head coach unearthly in every skill other than stamina and keeper. 2x excellent assistants and 1x formidable the cheapest wages I could possibly find. I was actually making money every week until my team improved and wages went up. Even when that happened I was still comfortably making a nice amount from gate reciepts.
I then re-introduced the junior school and money started rolling in. I currently have 3.6mill in the bank and a team capable of winning games.
You just have to find a plan stick to it and the results will come. Good luck

this is only my second season in league 3, im making profit every week, have a full junior school running, and looking like im going to finish in the top half of the tabble this season. all i've done to achieve this is buy 5 1st team trainees, and trained them for 2 seasons so there at a high level, and still trainable.
everyone complains about what players to train to make profit. the answer is simple, every player can make you money if you get them cheap. i never think to myself, im buying him tomorrow, for the simple reason is, i will be likely to over pay for him. i don't buy players to suit my team, i buy them to make money, or fill a gap for very little investment. and its working, i'm hopping to be in this league another 2 seasons after this one and promote, so think ill be in league 2, playing the game for alot less than 2 years.
to make money its not about making the best trainers to train you expensive players, its buy cheap players, not talented sell on for your money back, if there talented keep for 1 season, sell with prof of talent, or keep for longer and place them in your first team. this has to be the easiest way out... if it isn't, or people disagree then please explain ;)
