Auto-promotee's interview.
We caught up with the Premiership's newest team, Armitage Shanks and their manager, DJ, at a quiet public restroom somewhere along the M40.
"Hello, and congratulations on promoting to the Premier League!"
"Thanks," smiles DJ.
"What place are you aiming for next season?"
"Well," says DJ, "I think I'll just aim for surviving relegation... Scrap that. We'll aim for the top three this season. Wdp and ermejo both managed it in their first season, so why shouldn't I?" A cheer comes up from the players in the corner.
"Who will be your biggest players next season?"
"Bensted!" he cries. "Its about time he went and beat up the weak Mcoi and co at the highest level. My big man Charlier will be stuffing them in the onion bag this season too!"
"Who will be your biggest opponents next season?"
"Techincally, its Phil. I wonder why he isn't at the top this season..." DJ muses. "Personally though, I'm really looking forward to locking horns with wdp and giving him a good drubbing!"
"Who do you think will win the Premiership next season?"
"It really could be anyone. Except people who aren't in the Premier. That'd be silly. But I see no reason why Ermejo can't go all the way again. Watch and wait, I say." DJ zones out, obviously imagining lifting the trophy on his first season in the Premier.
The players are lobbing hand soap and urnial cakes at each other at this point, so I make my departure.
"Any last words for the Sokker Community, DJ?"
"Yes," he smiles. "My phone autocorrects Muhajir to Mugshot. You all think about that..."
Match Previews
Tomkellz vs Evertonian
"Opinions on the opposing manager?"
Tom: He's a great manager, and has had a good first season in the Prem. He's got a strong squad, and it'll be tough for me to win the game.
Evertonian: Tom is a really good manager, was unlucky when he did a good season in the prem when it was very strong and has continued to do well since.
"Who will be your most important player?"
Tom: It has to be one of my strikers, as they've all scored a lot of goals this season, but I'd choose Bill Lucy by a mile. This season he's become my number 1 striker, and managed 37 league goals!
Evertonian: Oral Özberk probably as he is my keeper and i need him to have a good day at the office as i think it might be a high scoring game.
"Who is the player you fear the most on their team?"
Tom: Looking over his squad he has a lot of quality players, but i think his midfield will be likely to trouble me, so either Champion or Sarniak as their most influential players.
Evertonian: Some muppet NT striker with a girls name - Lucy something, he/she looks a bit useful!
"What do you predict the score to be?"
Tom: Probably a biased answer as I'm the underdog, but I'll go with a 4-3 win for me.
Evertonian: 6-4 hopefully to the Old Evertonians!
Forestman vs Kipper
"Opinions on the opposing manager?"
Forestman: A good manager, tactically strong, and someone who's been in the Premiership more than once.
Kipper: He's alright I suppose but he's no mr gibbage and he only became the England manager by accident. Well actually he's a very decent guy.
"Who will be your most important player?"
Forestman: Kris Hagan, who I hope will score many goals.....
Kipper: Adrian Flowers, he's my only fit striker and if I'm to stand a chance he must put his chances away.
"Who is the player you fear the most on their team?"
Forestman: England NT player Charlie Horner is very tasty...
Kipper: Not sure, Viv Sear is a quality NT team player so I'll plump for him.
"What do you predict the score to be?"
Forestman: Forest Reserves to win 6-5, I hope!
Kipper: I'll lose as my team is young in places, so 4-1 to fm.
Herbman vs Lmoran:
We ran into herbman on his local street corner. Lmoran was not approachable at this time. His lawyers tell us we cannot say where he threw rocks at our oncoming supporters.
"Opinions on the opposing manager?"
Herbs: Don't know the bloke!
"Who will be your most important player?"
Herbs: The one who supplies the goals!
"Who is the player you fear the most on their team?"
Herbs: No Fear!!!!!!!!!!!
"What do you predict the score to be?"
Herbs: About an ounce.
