Subject: Sponsorship revenue / Fan Numbers

I have recently been helping out a new user, who I knew from Battrick:

Parkview Squirrels

Gave my standard advice which was to concentrate fully on training & forget about results. Also provided a few links to tactics etc. Its gone better than expected & he has just won the league.

Question is, is it better in terms on supporter numbers / sponsorhip to win each week in division 4, or to lose every week in division 3?

IMO, its better in terms of income to lose each week in div III.

In Div III, your sponsorship money is around 90-70k and even if you lose every game, your sponsorship money doesn't usually go below 50k and that's almost double what you get in div IV. Also, you're playing against better teams so, your ticket revenue each home game should be nice regardless of if your fan number is decreasing.

What he said. I remember this being talked about a lot a few years ago. Some found that with the (old) fan mood calculation you could actually lose more by promoting, and it meant that some people were throwing their qualifiers in IV etc.

Not sure if they were right to do so financially, I always thought it was better - morally and financially - to promote.

div 3 is well more profitable. even to lose every week. and normally if he can get 7 points in div 3, he will stay up, so beat the weakest team in his league twice, and get a lucky draw and he's safe. :)

I don't think there will be a definitive answer on this one as it will depend on the other teams in the league.

Perhaps, but to be honest this is an area where we will have to defer opinion to our lower league collegues.

Were you ever in divsision IV!!??

glad to be off service ;)

I was there once! Not many are still around that avoided it completely!

I was there myself, but it was never a case of losing all my games in divsision III (came 2nd in first season) when I did promote so it was no real question in terms of what is the best option.

I was never in IV, III or II.

Totally True: you can improve your squad on the increased gate revenue, especially now you can charge more for home matches against the best supported teams. The sponsorship money helps with improvements across the board, and even if you go down again you will have a better squad for your next League IV title challenge.

The best choice would be promote as the benefits of being in Div III far outweigh one season in Div IV for sure. The key lies here in the great boost to teams finances without which you can't do much.

I finished 3rd so it wasn't a great deal for me either. I made much more cash.

As for gibbage, he technically cheated.

Thanks Phil, however, looking at my playoff opponent, I have zero chance if wages are anything to go by!
