Here is the data from my 43yo on his skill drops...

Jon Bevan Age & Skills. Each update at start of the season.

Age 33: Striker = 15, Pace = 12, Tech = 9, Def =6
Age 34: Striker = 14, Pace = 12, Tech = 9, Def =6
Age 35: Striker = 13, Pace = 11, Tech = 9, Def =5
Age 36: Striker = 13, Pace = 9, Tech = 9, Def =5
Age 37: Striker = 13, Pace = 9, Tech = 8, Def =4
Age 38: Striker = 13, Pace = 9, Tech = 7, Def =3
Age 39: Striker = 11, Pace = 8, Tech = 5, Def =1
Age 40: Striker = 11, Pace = 7, Tech = 3, Def =0
Age 41: Striker = 9, Pace = 6, Tech = 2, Def =0
Age 42: Striker = 8, Pace = 6, Tech = 1, Def =0
Age 43: Striker = 6, Pace = 5, Tech = 0, Def =0
Current: Striker = 4, Pace = 3, Tech = 0, Def =0

Skill losses by age:

33: 1
34: 3
35: 2
36: 2
37: 2
38: 7
39: 4 (1 skill @ 0)
40: 4 (1 skill @ 0)
41: 2 (1 skill @ 0)
42: 4 (2 skills at 0)
43: 4 (2 skills at 0), 1/2 season complete only.

This doesn't show the "full truth" - but from the data from Bevan and others, you can see that skills do this:

28-31 flat (few pops, few plops)
32-34 slow decline
35-37 medium decline
38-42 fast decline
43- superfast decline..

I also missed the comment that I chose those 4 skills - as rated at 6,9,12 and 15. So I wanted to see if they fell at the same rates...as you can see, things seem a bit more random.

Whilst at first they seem to fall at similar rates (striker, pace, tech and def all lost 3 levels at abbout the same rate), later on the rates were more random - with pass falling more slowly. (I did train pace more than any other skill, but frankly Bevan has rarely played since aged ~37.

Anyhow. Hope that is of some interest. :)

Worth noting that pace is virtually always the first skill to decline. I suspect the cause of this is due to the coding in the game being that pace takes into account the age but adds a couple of years on. Would make sense of why it is slower to train than other skills and skill decline seems to hit in about 28 rather than the usual 30 for other skills.

We all know pace is approximately 50% slower than other skills, and i've always said that this is due to the age factor. I mean, it does say it in the rules.

I think at very early ages (16/17) pace trains the same as other skills. I have no hard evidence really though.

Some interesting stats there from Bevan, although continual training and talent for me are also important factors.

I got Bensted back up to superdivine technique at 30yo in just a couple of training sessions.

Nice info.

It will be interesting to see whether you could get Benstead back at 31 or 32..

I will dig out other data - I had popple all the way to 37 from "birth" so that may help.

Should never take the rules as complete gospel as there are known mistranslations in them and still a lot of it is what was set down by me and fman some 7-8 years ago!

Just made me chuckle. Those were the days!!

Do you remember how bad the original "english" rules were.....!!!!
2012-04-10 23:30:27
Do you still have an original copy by any chance?

I will have a look.
Found an "England Dream Team" jpg from 2004. Mid 30's rating got you into the England midfield....

ironically my team scores about the same ratings as in 2005... Anyhow, I drift from the topic. I'll dig out Popple-data later.
