Subject: Bargain or Robbed? You decide

2009-01-13 22:29:24
You should go for the gibbage transfer approach. Regularly make losses!
2009-01-13 22:40:50
Well, if I was to train something else, like passing I would make more on the trainees.

However, I agree, I would end up making losses on the rest.
2009-01-13 23:11:52
was it a bidding war or did you set a price? that price has me thinking whether to sell esca next season.
2009-01-13 23:31:23
Who, Hoyland?
2009-01-13 23:37:57
no your new player
2009-01-13 23:55:47
That was just bidding, only me and a Polish IV side from 4 166 669 $ upwards. Shame for me he was almost as stubborn as me!!
2009-01-13 23:58:23
I had planned to stop at 5 000 003 $ but, well I decided that I just wanted him so I would bid a bit more.
2009-01-14 12:19:41
I'll have you know that's my approach ! tm !
2009-01-14 15:35:52
Ditto; I only meant to spend £3.5m on this one but ended up spending £4.5m. I think that might be about 500k too much, but should be able to train this season and recoup?

Pavel Yanchev , age 23
value: 819 750 £
wage: 9 345 £
unearthly form

formidable stamina hopeless keeper
divine pace unearthly defender
very good technique excellent playmaker
good passing good striker

It does seem to me that you would make more money buying all-round midfielders and training up their defending than buying defender and training secondaries.

Just my opinion though.
2009-01-14 15:40:39
Bloody actuaries, etc.

He's right though.
2009-01-14 15:45:39
I know where you're coming from; but I rotate training and like to have 4 at the back and 2 up front to be competitive in the Prem and cup I can't afford to play players at the back with bad defending if I want to win. Hence buys like this who will get the odd training session in passing/technique/playmnaking to bumop them up along with more pace; the reserve wingback trainees are a bit different, and have been bought as bargains so there is a much nicer margin on them to be resold at 22 as pure pace trainees with developed secondaries, to people such as your good self ;-) There'll be a few ready for a dose of pace later this season if you're interested.

I will be interested I imagine, at the right price of course!

I disagree about the cup, last season my defenders didn't have anything higher than formidable and yet I manged to get to the semi-final of the cup.

Hmm and ho-hum. I have been considering a radical change tbh, as my squad is currently focussed on trying to have 12 first-team quality players and 10 trainees at various stages. The net loss on the 25y/o defs I sold recently was highly demoralising as their pace had been nicely bumped along with a few secondaries, so perhaps it comes down to an overhaul and either buy younger and sell younger, or copy you and focus it all on cold hard cash!

I had a defender with formidable play all season and I came 2nd in the league - I don't think you need divinity across the back by a long stretch
