Bryan Robson to All
We currently have 1 x 19yo mid good enough for England U21's, we have 1 x 19yo getting there & 1 x 18yo coming up but not ready yet... that's it!

If anyone is holding on to young English mids and not training them right/properly can they sell them to someone who will please.

Who is training any English mids atm?

As soon as they turn 22 do you even care? Do you understand that nobody in their right mind would sell a player purely to benefit the national teams over their own team?

These managers (ones that prioritise the NT's) are very rare, but you seem nonchalant that everyone should do this. It intrigues me.

Yes i care, im in constant contact with Lorre as regards to the top u21's that i think will make it or to put in his team straight away.

I have sold a player for this reason Qstarw is about to with Cairns, wdp74 did to buzzyl with Foley and i am sure tcd_uk would or has done too.

Yes not everyone will do, but if they are passionate enough about sokker and England they will (and if they even read this, but im asking more to contribute in here that's my next target)

Jimmy you are right...but sometimes in order to make more profit on your players its better to sell them at a younger age than keeping them and training what they do not need. Its about selling at the right time instead of keeping him and losing value!

The real problem here lays in the fact that when it comes to midfield (as an U21 coach) you need 5-10 teams to train midfielders in order to get at least 4 good enough for the U21! That is because it's the toughest position to train...so many skills...and you need loads of talent.

Besides that for some reason our youth schools never seem to provide enough mids :(.

When you train midfielders you have so many things to worry...you have 10 trainees, some need pace, some need tech, some need passing, and some need playmaking...some could use some defending and so on... Most users concentrate on their best 2 talents in regards to training.

What we actually need is more midfield trainers! If we had lets say 5 users training ...then I am sure we could have at least 1 player from each team!...enough for the U21 to make a living!

You do know you are talking to someone that has trained MID's for 6 years...

Part of my point is the game needs to change and promote people to do more for their NT by better rewards. At present, there is basically none.

You get extra training, so if a player of the same talent played for 2 seasons 90 minutes every match he would be about 5-10% better trained than one that was'nt.
2014-10-17 16:33:12
Which isn't even close to outweighing the risk in injury...

I thought i heard injured players recover quicker if in the international squad.

Also it's luck and positional nouse (you would use in friendlies like playing him almost of the park) that avoids injuries..but obviously bit more risky in a international....

Which is basically why I have come to the conclusion that for the U21s a tactic that doesn't rely on midfielders could be a pretty good idea. I appreciate that is slightly off topic though ;-)

I watched the game...it was quite random...neither team actually looked stronger and they scored from some impossible situations (at least the second goal...3 missed tackles). Well you can only get better!

On other terms...I won with Canada tonight...I advise you watch my game also as the tactical skills I formed at England U21 came to good use tonight!

Hope Mansid will find a solution for this midfield crises!

That was because it was U19, at U20 we are a little better in midfield but our 20yo's are the worst age group of all...

Yes we do no you have been training mids for years Jim, you do it in such a way you don't benefit from it for a very long while, if you train maybe 3 skills alternatly your team would play far better , with say oustanding pace formidable tech and passing , instead of incredible tech, magical pace and adequete passing.

It also waste wages in my book to because you pay higher wages cos of there values but they wont play aswell as they would the way you could be training them and be on lower wages.

Ohhh... this conversation is way off track....I like it!!! Popcorn ready!!! START!!

Tbh, this just really depends on what you are aiming for longer term though. The problem is that if you really want to compete at the higher levels (ok, the premiership) you will need high levels of pace otherwise your opponents will literally run circles around you. Pace takes longer to train, the older players are, so it's a no brainer that you train them at low ages if that's what you are aiming for. The problem here is the game. If you want a player to have pace you can simply forget about them playing for the U21s under most circumstances (which is a real pity imo) ...
