We played Portugal in a friendly today.
I'm happy with the 4-2 win and we even missed a penalty as well.
However, apart from the result I'm really pleased with the fact that I used a number of different players from what I would consider our best 11 and we still managed a very healthy average. That's very encouraging moving forward.

We played Russia in a friendly today and lost 3-2.
I played a youngish team and rested many of our better players as I wanted to see how our back-up players would get on. In the main, they did ok so that's pretty encouraging moving forward.
Next week we have Canada in WC qualifying and it's a match we simply have to win.

We played an U27 friendly against Norway today.
We effectively played a wide open 424 today and got hammered 4-0 as a result.
Our weakness is in defense which is also our main weakness at full NT level as well (especially as our main defenders aren't getting any younger). So if anybody wants to train defenders for the NT that would be much appreciated ;-)
That being said, the tactic were the main issue today given I wanted to play our better U27 players but it were only a friendly so no harm done and it actually confirmed a few things that I've felt for awhile so the game had it's benefits.
Next week we have the 2nd to last WC qualifying game and we currently need 1pt to qualify for the WC. I would hope that we can get it done in the first of those to take the pressure off the last game.

Firstly, one of our forwards picked up a slight injury so were thoroughly useless for the rest of the match. Then we had 2 red cards and conceded 2 penalties as well. Both red cards came to our central defensive position so we then left with a big hole in our defense which led to one of the goals.
Not to mention we had 5 one on ones with their keeper and couldn't score.
So considering that Bulgaria are ranked 5th in the world and that we only lost 3-0 given we were left with 8.5 players come the end of the game and had no luck maybe not all bad.

Czech Republic took us to the cleaners :-( A result of such magnitude that in reality I should be sacked.

However, ignoring the deficiencies in my tactics and the difference in average ratings I've not watched a game in such a long time where my defenders were simply not up to the task of keeping the opposition at bay. These were the best U27 English defenders on show after all yet the Czech forwards just ran rings around them, some of the time like they weren't even there.
I've started training English defenders but that process will not be a quick one. Given our best defenders are all over 30 and have started losing skills other results like this one are on the horizon because if you can't keep the opposition out they will build up a cricket score :-(

This is sokker I had similar result against slovensko and ww beat them never give up you have good tactics and with help of the community u can upgrade the team there are some very hot prospects. This is sokker game is cruel some times.

So our last 2 NT friendlies have been 8-0 and 7-2 defeats.
Unfortunately our younger NT defenders are
a) lacking in numbers
b) lacking in quality
This really is now at critical levels. We can just about cover this up for the moment with the older players when playing full internationals but those guys are slowly disappearing.
Sure, the tactics this last 2 games hasn't helped but given our resources we've basically been forced into playing 4 at the back recently.

We didn't have a lot of luck in that match against Greece.
Ok, so we lost 4-1 but we had a red card in the 10th minute and conceded a penalty in the 18th min.
Generally, we did ok for the rest of the match when you consider we were a man light.

I was going to train mids as I have a few, should I look to try and change to defence? I never seem to get any to train though.....
midfielders would also be good as we don't have loads of those either
