Is he’s talented he will rise so quickly that it wouldn’t matter imo

Exactly

It’s even better since pm is the fastest skill to train, so it’s the best skill to be lacking in (together with passing)

Regardless of how quickly he rises it'd still be a seasons worth of training that he wouldn't need if he was trained as a defender. It'd be a waste.

I genuinely don’t think so, he will rise so quickly in pm that he will become a great midfielder. It took me hardly any time to raise bamford - I know he’s really talented but still I think it is very possible. :)

The 18 yr old age group is stacked with great players.

Path of least resistance. He's a very good mid but he's a great defender and you never want to spend training points on something you don't need if there's a better alternative. 5 or 6 pops on PM vs 3 or 4 on Defending or Pace. My feeling is Defending or Pace turns him into a monster at 19/20.

Keep in mind that PM for him means PM for all your mids, because you can't bloody train PM for defenders. That's actually what puts me off him completely, it'd screw up the training for all my mids.

I understand what you’re saying about pm for defenders, I had that issue with Sherringham so ended up training him with mid orders.
