Subject: New England Manager

2007-11-22 21:49:18
me.

I'd do as well as that shiney toothed goon.

£2.5m for being useless.....
2007-11-22 21:56:51
Not much of a plus though, doing as well as...

At least you would probably pick players that play in position. If so you would be proclaimed a footie genius!
2007-11-22 23:20:40
I'm expressing my opinion; I think you need to be taking more pinches of salt. If a difference in opinion in itself is enough to be defined as self-aggrandising and belittling then we're both equally culpable ;-)

I think that Grant would be too much like Sven was. I'd like to see Mourinho as manager, although I don't think it'd happen. I'd like that because a) we'd win more matches and (more importantly from my point of view) b) he's entertaining! c) he doesn't look like the Grinch.

P.S. It's "constructive criticism."

There are rumblings of Hoddle for england on quite a few footy forums, REALLY didn't see that coming, but maybe, just maybe......
2007-11-23 00:11:31
I voted for other as I believe I would do, at least, better than McClaren.
2007-11-23 00:23:59
Neil warnock would make an excellent england coach full of passion just what we need. Also wouldn't take any flannell from our current bunch of big time charlies.
2007-11-23 00:30:37
yes, but the refs would conveniently always somehow manage to screw things up.
2007-11-23 02:48:17
I agree the refs just not up to standard any more
2007-11-23 08:56:34
Apparently Rafa Benitez has thrown his hat in the ring. He would be good for England.

1. You're correct about the phrase. I forgot and thank you for reminding me. :)

2. Looks have nothing to do with choice of coach, with or without pinches of salt. Mourinho looks too much like a cross between Napoleon and Jack from Will & Grace, not to mention that his character is something of a cross between a mad ferret and Maggie Thatcher.

3. It was not the difference of opinion that made me talk about "self-aggrandising and belittling" which is sometimes a common trait amongst English and English football fans regarding their counterparts from other countries. This BTW my friend, is part of what brought your empire down!

4. You're listing all the wrong reasons to hire Mourinho for the job. Entertainment value is definitely not one of them. And you also have no guarantee that you'll win more. You're just swayed by his flamboyant character which is exactly what you don't need.... Ohh, and Sven wasn't a hard working grey man. He flirted with the media like a pro only he was too boring.

5. I'm not saying Avram Grant is the only choice. But some of those listed above are definitely the wrong ones.

6. I truly wish England to become once again one of the world's football super powers, as it was, for its style and contribution to the world's football is a must. Maybe a little outside help is needed...? wouldn't it be wise to take some?

7. :)

Colin is an absolute plank, his style of football is long ball, direct and frankly awful to watch.

I would really like to see a Manager who will get England playing with style, originally I thought Hoddle could do that, he then had a few issues. lol

I want somebody like Mourinho who will have a set style in his head and will not bow to pressure from players or the press.

I do feel that Technically we need to train our players better from a young age.

It is a FACT that Academies look for youngsters who are both powerful and pacey, technical ability is not high on the wish list. As a result of this we have lots of fast and powerful players, when we play teams such as Croatia we get shown up because we do not know how to control, pass and move like these teams.

I felt the best player on the pitch that night was Modric, on quite a few occassions he made Gerrard look silly as he turned him, he controlled the ball well, passed it brilliantly and just looked a class act. I had previously never heard of him either.

How about Carlos Valderrama for England coach? His haircut was exceptional and we haven't had one of those in charge since Keegan; and he had cut his to make it more sensible - hopefully Valderrama will be his own man and will not bow to conformity. Rudi Voller could be his assistant. What do you think?
2007-11-23 14:15:46
Valderrama has just been handed a massive touchline ban for accusing the ref of being bought by the opposition. Is this really the kind of guy we want? One who actually cares?

Anyhoo...Agree with RN about the english thing. If we have to "make do" with only english players, we should have to "make do" with only english coaches. I'm still all for Stuart Pearce, by the way.

As an aside; why was McClaren even sacked? Who are we going to get in just before a major tournament of which we aren't part or part way through the season? Certainly nobody who's currently employed at the euro championship. Why didn't the FA hang fire until then? Why haven't those at the FA responsible for appointing McClaren in the first place lost their jobs too? They got it wrong 18 months ago, and every football fan knew it.

either one of

a) to "set an example"
b) to take the heat off their own jobs.
2007-11-23 14:26:51
Twunts.

Why not employ the next manager with a "if you don't get us through to the [insert tournament here] we owe you nothing and can sever your contract with immediate effect" clause?
2007-11-23 14:29:12
But that would be sensible.

I'm pretty sure with Wembley they were owed compensation from the contracted company, but they somehoe managed to get none at all.

Who employs these people? oh their mates.
