I use Paint to show the talent of my players, but for some reason I cannot open it now as it keeps coming up with Inadequate memory for this function. Does anybody know whats happening or what I can do to remedy this?
close some other programs down, if this doesnt work, restart your machine.
I have tried that. Only thing I can think of is my son deleted something that it needs to work?
hmm - go to your control panel, open "Add / remove programs". On the left hand side should be a tab called "Add / Remove Windows Components". The first option in the list that pops up will be Accessories and Utilities. Double click this, and you'll get 2 options, Accessories and Games. Double click Accessories. In there you'll find paint. remove it, and apply, then go through the procedure again and add it.
You can only do this if you have your original operating system disks.

I had my computer custom built a couple of years ago, I cannot find the original startup disks etc.
What I was thinking of doing was to use my wifes laptop and emailing the paint document to me at this computer. I can still view old paint documents but cannot create new ones. Do you think that will work?

The fix doesn't appear to be what NCN suggested, purely because the program works as you have stated.
The error you are getting is a bit bizarre though, because it can't be memory related for such a basic file like Paint?
There is something in System in Control Panel somewhere where you can select more virtual memory, don't know if that could be it?

When I click on Paint to open it it says:
There is not enough Memory or resources to complete this operation. Please close some programs and try again.
This is as you say weird as I have no other programs open.

I think it might be virtual memory...though i don't think it would do any harm to do some Adaware and virus checks.
Do you have a lot of processes running in the bottom right corner of the Windows bar?

So what is Virtual Memory?
Virtual memory is a section of the hard disk that windows grabs for itself to use as memory.
Is your hard disk nearly full ?
Is the computer running slowly generally ?

Is it just one particular document you can't open?
Microsoft help has this to say about receiving your error message:
If the bitmap file is in a compressed format that Paint cannot read. For example, Paint does not support CVID compressed bitmap files. If you try to open such a file in Paint, the error message stated above occurs.

It happens only when I start Paint up and try to start a new Paint Document.
I can only open existing paint documents.

I don't think my hard disk is full, my computer is still fairly quick, I will have a check up though.
