Kinnear hints at return of Keegan and Shearer
Sep 26 2008 Evening Chronicle

JOE Kinnear has suggested that Toon heroes Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer could come back to Newcastle United in some capacity.

The temporary NUFC boss also revealed that he may only be in charge of the team for as little as 10 days, adding that he expects new owners to come in sooner rather than later.

Speaking at the press conference, he said: "I am aware that the new owners have Kevin Keegan and possibly Alan Shearer parked around the corner."

Kinnear admitted he has taken on a "massive challenge'' and he is well aware the reason he has been given the temporary job is that it was turned down by a number of Newcastle's targets.

The Dubliner also revealed he did not apply for the job.

He continued on BBC Radio Five Live: "It was a call out of the blue to be honest."

And he added: "The fans are going to be disappointed. I am aware of that and I can do nothing about that.

"My shoulders are broad enough to take any criticism.”

The latest comedy appointment sends a strong message to the Toon Army.. don't piss off the cockney mafia!

You might think things are bad enough already.. but Joe's the man to take you to a whole other level of hurt.

i bet Wise was behind this, his idea of bringing Bassest to Leeds was a similar idea to piss off as many people as possible.

being fair a long ball game at newcastle may just work out better than what their doing now, i mean long ball tactic is better than no tactic.

He is right when he says he will be there for 10 days as Barry Chuckle brother takes over for the rest of the season.
2008-09-26 20:03:51
No mate, that rumour's false.. Mr Chuckle apparently considered it, but was worried about losing his credibility if he took the job.

BBC website: Newcastle's new interim manager Joe Kinnear may have to wait up to a month before he can sit in the dugout due to an old touchline ban he must

great we have a caretaker manager expected to last 2 weeks max, and he won't even be allowed in the technical area before he leaves. if i wasn't so busy crying i would laugh. almost.
2008-09-28 09:53:09
Well, mr Wise would be quite decent as a clown, he knows how to make people laugh...
2008-09-28 11:25:40
yeah newcastle are screwed. its about time the fans jumped ship over to sunderland.....
2008-09-28 15:12:51
He swore live on football focus yesterday too, defending ashley saying he got newcastle out of the ship! Quite amusing.
2008-09-28 15:50:56

2008-09-28 17:55:29

I'll try and say something a little controversial, but this is my opinion on the matter, so criticise all you like.

Based on what I know (Which may not be much), Ashley wanted to change the ethos at the club, from a free spending club, that wasted money on large transfer fees, to one that was run properly, bought good young players that a team could be built around, with enough experienced players (Butt/Owen/Given) who have won things, to help nurture these young talents properly. These young talents would help benefit the club for years to come, if they highly impress, Newcastle have a player who is worth more than what they paid, and if became unsettled, could be sold for good money and be re-spent on young players again, hopefully creating a cycle, where money only needs to be invested if an opportunity arises which would drastically improve the side. Wise was brought in, mainly to scout for these players, and as a footballing man, provide Ashley with a boardroom member who knows, and can advise Ashley, on whether the players have potential, based on this, I see nothing wrong in what Newcastle were trying to achieve, Keegan was simply brought in, to please the fans. What better way to get the fans on side to what is a patient approach, and could help appease them, than Keegan? (Yes I do know Keegan was there before Wise). Keegan would help keep the fans on side, while the club went through a stage of change, before the change started to show through and benefit the club.

The one big problem, was not Wise, but Keegan (Reports were that he wanted to spend £200m on Beckham/Lampard/some other old player), he wanted the club not to be run properly, but to spend stupid money on players who would have absolutely no re-sale value. While spending £200m on players looks great, Ashley just can't throw money away, he isn't rich enough to do so. Then reports started to circulate that there was tension between Wise/Ashley and Keegan, of course there would be, the manager isn't following what the board want.

This leads me onto the fans, you don't want your club to be run properly, while the reports started circulating about problems between manager and board, some club called Man City were bidding for Berbatov/Robinho at £30m each, but they have financial problems don't they? Oh some rich people have just taken over and are throwing money at them. Booo, why not us, what, Keegan wanted to spend £200m and the board didn't back him, booo board out, booo. You don't want a Geordie to run the club, you've had one of your own run the club for quite a while, and it hasn't worked, you want someone to come in and throw money around, like they just don't care, I have no sympathy for most Newcastle fans for siding with Keegan, I hope you get relegated I really do, and especially if Keegan gets the job back, how stupid of you, to place a manager as bigger than the club, no-one is ever bigger than the club.

Sorry if that's a long read, also, I know I wont be very popular amongst Newcastle fans for it, but that's my opinion, and I'll stick to it.
