Subject: Recommend a laptop
actually there are some advantages, as apples are usually less heavy + their batteries last longer
My tosh was a 1.5Ghz celeron with 1GB RAM and 80GB HDD. It was ace for the first 18mths and then started not switching on, which is a bugger. So am a little worried, although I originally bought tosh as decent quality.
We are really really price constrained at the moment - £400 is as much as my wife will give me. therefore likely to get either a cheap toshiba, a dell or the samsung R60plus which is highly recommended.
I need 1GB memory minimum as Vista appears to chew through memory.

With vista i'd try and get 2 gig, it shouldn't be at all expensive compared to 1 to be fair.
My current laptop costed my €1400,- and got a cut of 20% from the university. Don't expect to get any high tech laptop for only 400 pounds.
that toshiba is a great deal.
However I went for this:
Samsung R60+
It's slightly slower - Core Duo, not Core 2 Duo, but has 2GB RAM, and best of all, a 3 year guarantee worth £99....

Looks a solid deal, 2 gig of ram really will help you out for what you are going to do with it.

I would have recommended a Dell Inspiron because they are cheap to buy new and you can customize it.
But no one cares anymore. And besides, Poms probably don't listen to Aussies. =P

Still a pretty good price for what he is getting on that one.
