Woppa is correct but the yanks use "state of the art" for anything that not only means "highest level of development, as of a device, technique, or scientific field, achieved at a particular time"1, but also as an advanced level of development in comparison to other equivelant things. In this sense, it is OK to say it. He suggests that the bloke thinks his judgement is better than all others...

It would be fair to say that Hollywood movies should not be taken as great exemplaries of English usage.

:)

I'm trying to get my ear hear more English than at the moment so I try to get the lyrics of song. Now I have a question:

Old yellow bricks

minute 1:00, something like this. I've found lyrics with this:

"She wasnt raised by the way,"

I'd go rather with "She was enraged", and it's quite clear...am I right?

"She wasnt raised by the way"

is right.

Buuu. :P

Anyway I've felt quite bizarre when my finishing line of the song was "Darn if he was right though" while in the original it is "Dorothy was right though"

:p

Me again.

fly in the ointment - what does it mean?
2008-09-22 15:49:45
ointment = something good.

fly in the ointment = something that gets in the way of something good.

fly in the ointment = borkos
2008-09-23 12:52:14
Or borkos in sokker?
2008-09-23 13:21:57
wrestny. both of you.
2008-09-23 14:43:43
fly in the ointment = ncn disrupting borkos's australian NT campaign with the offer of a wrestny norwich city pen.

when Gibby pulls out the wrestny card it seems somehow OK, when you do it, it is a bit like a gypsy lady trying to sell me lucky heather...

Was it a pen, or a badge? I though it was something different
