Football hooliganism in Poland
Football is one of the most entertaining games in the world. There is only one wicked thing in this beautiful sport – hooliganism. It is a really serious problem and it should not be underestimated.
Football hooliganism was ‘invented’ in England – the same place where the sport itself was brought up to the world. Happily it was successfully fought with the help of Queen Elizabeth II. She introduced huge fines for entering the field and starting, or taking part, in the stadium riots – for example lifetime ban for all games in England. I think that Poland should follow this example, as the level of anger, hatred and brutality on Polish stadiums is increasing. But it does not concern only stadiums. Every year there are lots of victims because of the rivalry of hooligans. These people, or maybe I should name them harebrained beasts, are capable of killing someone just because he has a scarf of the rival team on his neck. In my opinion it is totally insane and animal, and those football monsters should be stopped at once!
The best example of the bestiality of those pseudo supporters is Cracow where the fans of two rival teams, Wisla Cracow and Cracovia, constantly fight and kill each other. Even the death of Jean Paul II was not enough to stop them – there was only a short ceasefire between them – nowadays everything is back on the old track. Recently our hooligans have even started to ‘work’ outside Poland – supporters of Legia Warsaw completely demolished stadium of Vetra Vilnius in the UEFA Cup game.
I have completely nothing against arranged battles in the forest or anywhere outside the ‘civilisation’ because it really does not worry me if some morons want to kill each other. But it is the other way round when it goes to assaulting innocent people.
This all together gives Polish football a bad name and discourages normal people from going to see the games because they are frightened about themselves and their children. There is only one way to eliminate hooliganism from Polish stadiums – clubs must introduce successful monitoring system to catch the hools and what goes with it – to fine them. Also the punishments for this kind of crime should be much more severe. We must follow the example of England and introduce lifetime game bans and huge, maybe even enormous pecuniary fines for pseudo supporters who go to the game not to support their team but to take part in a fight. This is not what football is about.
How smoking affects people?
In 1613 Sir William Raleigh bought tobacco to England. Since then it has become as widespread as water. Nowadays more and more young people start smoking, which is a really serious problem, both for them and the government.
People that are addicted to cigarettes, or maybe I should say nicotine, smoke over 20 of them each day! Because of it they lose stamina, start to feel bad, have problems with concentration when they cannot smoke. What is more, the possibility of cancer is getting bigger. Another disadvantage of being a smoking addict is that those people have stinking breath and this might be a big issue in making closer interactions with people with the opposite sex.
While the previous case might be taken with a pinch of salt, the next one definitely is not supposed to be. Smoking people cannot concentrate if they do not have cigarettes, and they are extremely nervous and aggressive when this state occurs.
I think that it is obvious that smoking has a really bad effect on people’s lives. It affects both our health condition and our social lives. And it does not really pay back at all – no advantages, lots of disadvantages. So does smoking actually have any sense?
How to fail an important test or exam
Everyone knows how to pass a test or exam. But doing it the other way is much more complicated. Thanks to my experience I can help you in doing it. There are only a few mai steps and each of them is essential. First of all you should not learn too much because then you might accidentaly write good answers. It is recommended to spend the learning time at the gym or in front of your personal computer. The next move you should make is having a party with lots of alcohol and cigarettes. And if you a real school nerd and you do not have any friends then just buy yourself some vodka or beer and drink it to the mirror. The last but not least important step is to try not to fall asleep as long as you can. This together with the party and lack of knowledge will definitely help you in failing a test or an exam.
Smoking marijuana in Poland should not be forbidden
Drugs are a very controversial issue. There is no manner of doubt that they are bad for health and usually lead to addiction and even death. Still, in my opinion, soft narcotics like marijuana should be available in a legal way. Of course with some restrictions – they should be accessible only in coffee shops and there should be an age limit.
There are many pros of making marijuana legal. First of all the government would be able to have their ear to the ground, and also the country would get a nice amount of money from the distribution. The second advantage of it is mafia would lose the control over the soft drugs and what goes with it – the price would not been so high, and criminals would not make money on it. I am really concerned whether the politics will get the hang of it, or maybe there is more than meets the eye and there are some secret connections between the mafia and government? I guess that we will never know it. Another argument for legalizing marijuana is that there is not much difference between this drug and other well known, but legal ones like tobacco – it as addicting and bad for health as ‘weed’ is.
Of course, there is always a silver lining. Taking even soft drugs is burning the candle on both sides, but lets’ not make a mountain out of a molehill – it is the same way as with smoking cigarettes. What is more, now marijuana is much more harmful than it would be if the government legalized it. Why? Because nowadays it is being mixed up with LSD, heroin by dealers to make it more addicting. Pure soft drugs are simply less destructive.
Lets’ call a spade a spade – legalizing marijuana has both pros and cons. But in my opinion there are more advantages – it would have better quality, would not be so pernicious and it would aid the government with additional money, which could be used for example to help people who are addicted to drugs.
Technology is changing our lives in 3 important areas
I believe that technology is one of the most important things in the world. It has a major influence on the medicine, transport and communication and what goes with it – on our lives. It makes our earth existence a lot simpler, faster and much more pleasant.
Medicine in my opinion has the biggest impact on our civilization. The development of drugs, vaccines and general knowledge about human body is crucial for mankind. If it has not improved over the centuries humanity would have been exterminated by diseases such as smallpox, tuberculosis or syphilis. Now on account of technology our knowledge, supported by newest inventions, is able to challenge aids and cancer – we are already capable of slowing down the effects and we are getting closer to the cure every day.
People always wanted to explore the world, so we can say that travelling was a constant problem for human race. Technology had an impact on this part of our lives as well as on the medicine. Throughout the centuries our predecessors have invented bicycles, hot air balloons, planes, cars and now we are slowly reaching other planets with space shuttles. But at the same time scientists are trying to improve all of the invented means of transport – not only by increasing their speed or appearance but also safety. What is more they are still trying to make-up a new fuel which would be less air polluting and cheaper.
People are generally striving to communicate. We have an internal need for expressing and exchanging our feelings, opinions. Thanks to the internet, mobile phones it is easier. We can write blogs, state our views on forums, and talk with people from all parts of the world thanks to programs like Skype. And we are always able to phone our friends or relatives as a result of mobile telecommunication development.
Summarizing – technology is extremely important in our lives. It helps us in communicating with other people, in expressing opinions, travelling. It simply makes the existence of each of us easier, and more comfortable. And what is most important, it helps us to survive despite the threats of nature.
And the improved version of previously writen one :)
Drunk winners
Each of Polish citizens carries in their mind a vision of Poland as an empire that everyone should be afraid of. It has an influence both on their favourite sports and pastimes. Polish people are supporters of these sports in which their country is winning, and their most preferred way of spending free time is drinking alcohol.
Polish people have a complicated national character. It might be an effect of their history. Poland, once an almighty country, after years of being conquered and controlled became totally dependent on USA and European Union. Yet, as I have said, most of them still regard their country as an important one that should always be esteemed. They always want to be winners and it has an influence on their sport liking. They choose to support their country in the sport in which they can achieve something. It was noticeable when Adam Małysz was a ski jumping champion, or when Polish volleyball team has won silver medal at the World Cup. Polish people tend to support teams that are in the pink of fame and it is quite probable that they will stay at the pinnacle. Still, when they stop winning their earlier supporters will hiss and jeer at them although they seemed to be fanatic and devoted to their team.
It is often said that Polish people are drunkards and to my mind it is true. Descendants of Slavs drink often and much. This also has its beginnings in the history – Polish nobles in XVII century were known as hard drinkers and their successors are proud of it. Another reason for this kind of pastime is that in hard days of annexation people were drinking a lot to forget about the situation of Poland and it looks like this habit is being handed over in genes to every next generation.
Summarizing – Polish people are faithful supporters when the odds for win are high enough, but are capable enough to run down the players when something goes wrong. And they are definitely not drinking once in a blue moon!

I got bored with the others. Maybe tomorrow after the gym.
Quite understandable ;)
Ok, few questions:
Should I say:
....but every cloud has a silver lining
....but there is always a silver lining
Can I say:
But the ball is in governemnts cours.
He is burning the candle on both ends.
He is cutting corners.
He deserves a pat on the back.
And then, suddenly, this idea crossed my mind.
John was cut down to size.
a stiff upper lip - how this one should be used?
same with: ring a bell

Really important guys, I have an exam tomorrow and I've just realised I'm not sure about those.
Should I say:
....but every cloud has a silver lining
....but there is always a silver lining
Probably the first one.
Can I say:
But the ball is in governemnts cours.
I think you mean, "but the ball is in the governments court", means it is down to them to make the decision.
He is burning the candle on both ends.
He is burning the candle at both ends...means he is doing a lot work!
He is cutting corners.
yep, doing things in a more simplistic way normally to complete the task quicker.
He deserves a pat on the back.
yep, he deserves praise, adulation.
And then, suddenly, this idea crossed my mind.
perhaps no need for the first comma? but it wouldn't be incorrect to have it.
John was cut down to size.
yep, John was put in his place, as it were.
a stiff upper lip - how this one should be used?
someone has a "stiff upper lip" if they sort of, battle through when the going gets tough. for example if you think of a cartoon, sometimes when people cry or begin to cry their upper lip wobbles violently, showing emotion. if someone has a stiff upper lip they do not show much emotion.
same with: ring a bell
i would take this to mean when somebody asks you if you know bob Marley, you might not quite remember and say "it rings a bell" meaning, "it rings a bell in my mind but i can't quite pick it out [yet]".
....but every cloud has a silver lining

Yup, I'm just writing with only one hand, the other one is searching for lost notes :))
He is burning the candle at both ends...means he is doing a lot work!
Does it also mean something about risking health?
Ok, got this one about the upper lip. But can you show me a sentence with it, so I can see how can it actually be used in one?

I guess so, sort of...he's gets up very early and goes to bed very late type of thing...depends how much of a risk of health you mean...?

When England beat Poland in the football match, doughnut_jimmy laughed in borkos' face, but borkos has a stiff upper lip and showed little emotion.

The candle one dates from when electricity wasn't in houses. If someone was up early and to bed late, they'd be "burning the candle at both ends (of the day)".
