Subject: Bristol City v Hull

2008-05-25 15:16:15
I am over the moon that was the tensest 45mins of my life. I firmly belive that city will beat derbys points and will do better than stoke next season.
2008-05-25 20:58:09
Loads of my mates are city fans, so feel pretty sorry for them.

Windass in the Prem again.....!
2008-05-25 23:06:58
Surely Windass is too old for the Prem now. Hell of a way to retire though.

Steelers. thats where your wrong, that debt is the clubs and not the Glaizers, the asset it that the loan was taken out on was the projected season ticket sales. and all the operating profit (which isnn't as big as people think post tax)wont save you for over 30 years with all the money needed on transfers. tax. and any player bonuses that arn't annouced because Ferguson has been illegally tapping up players for decades.

I'd say Chelsea are ran much more ethically because we all know abramovich is their sugar daddy, he didn't buy the club only to write off his own debt. you're not on the brink of folding but one mistake and thats it for you.

I think hes going to have one last go. I think he could well just be used mainly to come on off the bench but having his experience and enthusiasm around the team will be great.
2008-05-25 23:35:05
But hasnt Abramovich only loaned alot of his money to chelsea so if he left in theory they could be in big trouble?
2008-05-25 23:39:21
norwich very nearly bought him about 12 seasons ago. martin o'neill allegedly walked out when our chairman wouldn't fund the transfer. have to wonder what would of happened had he signed. would o' neill have stayed, and made windass a premiership player ?

it's worked out very nicely for hull though. if you get a chance to go, then do so. we got to beat man utd 2-0 in our prem season at home, but i couldn't get to go. was nice to watch on match of the day though.
2008-05-25 23:43:51
I have a season pass so should get to all the home games and hopefully a few away if i can win the mad scramble for tickets.

Superb ! I remember working with a Leeds fan when they were in the champions league, their league and european schedule was something like,Madrid, Man Utd, Lyon, Arsenal or something bonkers over 3 weeks. I said to him at the time he should go, and his response was always, "Nah, they'll be in it again next season..."

abramovich has the option to write off the debt in full or in part should he sell up, not great but its an option.

the glaziers do not have that option and should the need to sell arises the new investor will have to pay out the remainder and there is no bugger in the world who'd invest in that for at least 10-15 years. what business man buys debt and expects success.

would of done that the next season if our perfectly legitmate goal against scumchester counted. done over by a stupid chairman and a spineless linesman.

and look what its done to us.

P.S wembley is the biggest white elephant in English football.
2008-05-26 00:08:36
The stupid chairman has more to answer for if you ask me. "Living the dream" is not a good phrase to hear from someone who should be trying to keep costs down to keep the club running. Leeds should be a mid-table Prem side, not where they are. Having said that, going back up would have left a sour taste in a lot of mouths after Ken Bates tried to get the 15 point deduction reversed, after agreeing legally not to challenge the decision. The crazy thing is Ridsdale has had jobs at Burnley and Cardiff since if I recall correctly.

I think you'll run away with League 1 next season, and from there Man City and Bristol City show it's possible to promote and do well in the Championship.

I think I said in my 1st para that the debt is the clubs, but only by dent of the Glaziers buying them. The club didn't run with significant debts until the Glaziers purchased them.

30 years - that sounds a bit like when someone takes out a mortgage to buy a house, the money you borrow is set against the asset until you pay the bank back in full, so not that radical then...

...the mortgage at United hasn't stopped us purchasing new players thus far, and I believe the intention is to make fresh signings this summer.

With regards to ethics - there aren't really any in the premiership, as nearly all of the successful clubs are run as businesses - but how can you say Chelsea is run more ethically than United. Without Abramovich's vast fortune you couldn't underwrite the player expenditure he's made, and I don't believe you've made 1 penny of operating profit in his entire tenure as owner.

United have been a 'big' club for years with a global brand and huge merchandising reach. These factors have allowed the Glaziers to borrow the cash. They'll still be a 'big' club with likely buyers even if the Glaziers stuff the finances.

Abramovich is trying to buy his way to the top table. I hope for your sake he never goes off football, as he could just moth-ball the club. After all, what's a couple of hundred million loss to a petulant Russian oligarch?

what business man buys debt and expects success.

His name is Marcus Evans, and he bought Ipswich Town...

boom boom.

ithink ipswich only had a peak of about half a season, cant see them doing much in the next few years.

Ridsdale has managed to get Cardiff into £30million but looks like he's managed to dodge the bullet over that.

as for Bates. well the arbitration panel originally threw out that contract that said Bates wasn't to seek legal action because they said it was backmail, which it was. Later when they needed to find a legitimate reason to not give the points back they used this. and because its leeds and ken bates everyone decided to forget the events of the past 6 months and make up false accusations on what leeds actually did.

Leeds actually won the case but they didn't get the points back because and i qoute "it's unfair on other clubs" so leeds were found to be in the right but got nothing for it. no one cares about fairness to us and now we've got another year in league one because some people didn't want to do whats right, and now Luton look like they might have to start next season -15 because some people were to spineless to do whats right. and now any club that enters administration will face a 25point deduction because the football league changed the rules so this would happen.

Bates is trying to get rid of the 15 point deduction rule which will in the short term save bournmouth, luton, rotherham and halix from that fate. and countless others in the next few years. so Bates isn't the evil boogie man people portray him as. still a complete tosser though.

Leeds' 15 points was a completely seperate case to that of Bournemouths, Lutons etc.

You run your club into financial difficulty and enter administration you get 10 points deducted.

If you go Bankrupt, you should get completely thrown out of the league, or start at a certain level again, for Leeds that was supposed to be League 2. Accrington in the past had to start all over again.
