Subject: Bristol City v Hull
you have a point here fujor, norwich made a profit of 2 million a couple of seasons back, some fans still moan about it now on the norwich message boards. all that money given to the taxman, etc.
i'd agree with wdp here - it's a shame for the fans, but bates is a vulture looking to pick what he can off the carcuss after he's built it up again. i didn't hear many leeds fans complaining when they were beating Real Madrid though.

fair enough, let him pick the carcass once he's built us back up again. if he can get us back to the prem then he can take his share.
he bought low to sell high. cant fault him for that.

I take it you've never worked for St Johns Ambulance then. You say that the creditors were paid, but what you forgot to mention was that they were paid a couple of pence for every pound they were owed.
Exactly and this is what makes me mad when these things are brought up.
Bates bought Leeds and in doing so took over the debt of the club which was included within the valuation, and then he went into administration to wipe the majority out........Sorry Fujor but it is plain wrong to do so, I do not care about the Taxman but small family run businesses get wiped out by people like him and then lose their homes.
Bates is a multi millionaire and could have paid off Leeds debts had he chosen to, and as I say they were taken into account when he bought Leeds........The Guy is scum.

well you best have a word with St johns ambulance and these family run business who agreed to the CVA in place.
if they were all to go under, or felt they were to be wronged surely they would reject the CVA and ask for 100% to be paid. but they did not.
FYI bates paid off the full amount to the charities we owed money to. but did it as a charitable donation, had a presentation in the pavilion before the Southend game. doubt it was a PR stunt because the story never left that room didn't even make the website only a brief mention in bates column for a matchday programme the following week.
and whos to say bates actually has that sort of money? his money would get launder quicker then a pair of skidmarked pants. he wont have 30million+ lying around.
@norwich, i see Beckford has been linked with your boys today. unlucky!

which is genius. if he gift aided the donations - which he would have - then as a higher rate tax payer he will have been able to claim back 18p in the pound. so if for example the debts were 100k, then he would have cleared his debt but made back 18,000 in tax breaks. charity begins at home i guess ;-)

i dont know how this works but bates lives as a tax exhile in monte carlo. can he claim on gift aid?
im pretty sure you have to be a UK resident but it would surprise me if he did claim money back on gift aid given the chance.

All these businesses have a gun to their heads when offered CVA's, what would you rather have nothing or 1p in the £1..........
PS Bates sold Celsea for over £90m iirc so don't come up with hes got no money! lol
I would be happy with a 10th of that.
Oh and my point is - he knew what the debts were and if could not afford to repay the whole lot then he should never have bought Leeds....end of.
Thats the problem with Football in general these days it is too money orientated......for what its worth I preferred the good old days when players got sensible wages and stayed loyal to a club for a while. These days the slightest sniff of a big club and they start throwing their dummies around, also clubs did not get into debt like this back then.
For me a 10pnts deduction or even a 15 pts deduction is not a stiff enough penalty for poorly run clubs - it should be a relegation automatically of 2 divisions imo.
However at the end of the day, who suffers???? The fans everytime, and then they expect us to pay more to get them out of debt, and then we do it which makes us gluttons for punishment doesn't it?

90 million was not enough to buy the club and pay off the debts not even half way there. and i said he would launder money, he has loads of businesses and he certainly wont have 30 million under his mattress he can get hold of whenever he wants.
besides Leeds went on the route of earning to pay off their debts but it didn't work out, he didn't buy the club to put it into administration and only did do on the eleventh hour after the tax office served a winding up notice for un paid tax. which if they wanted to play ball they could of been paid off in full over time but they didn't want to do it for whatever reason. going by your reasoning its wrong to buy any business thats in debt and try and turn them around and improve them.
and football has always been money orientated, not to this degree obviously but money always talked, it was and always will be king. to think otherwise is just nostalgia
and im sure halifax town fans are cartwheeling down the street at the thought of paying less for football next season. simple fact is administration is a dirty business put long term it makes more people more money and keeps people in jobs then demoting clubs or forcing them to pay 100% debts. Leeds have gone back to most of their previous creditors and continued business with them. long term they'll win. 200 people were spared redundancy by administration, the football league made loads off leeds back this season. leeds paid alot more tax this year than if they had been demoted, directly and in directly. leeds as a city has not been hit by reduced spending the demotion would cause.
i still struggle to see the harm this has caused, all i can see is benefits to all parties just over a longer periodof time. not ethical i know but who has it actually harmed in the grand scheme of things. bare in mind most of the debt was football related and paid off in full.
also as a fan i've not suffered, i've paid less this year on the road and i went to easily 3 times more away games this season (change of jobs enabled me to do so)

Yeah, Beckford. Bit worried about that to be honest :)
im going to use this to get away from administration now because it wont go anywhere :D its a dead end arguement that will never end.
Beckford is quick and not afraid to shoot but he is the thickest footballer going. i have more of a footballing brain then him. he wont pass but when he does its usually way ward, never gets tight to his strike partner, spits his dummy out every 5 minutes.
i would drive him to norwich, i really would. how he got 20 goals this season is mind boggling. if he got his head straight he would be good at championship level.

He sounds a little bit like a taller and less ugly Robert Earnshaw.
nah earnshaw is a very intelligent player in comparison.
