I think Beckham was a good player, I just think, that now, he is relying on his set piece ability.
2008-05-28 22:37:42
apart from Gerrard; Bentley, Hargreaves and Barry have made the first team midfielders look a bit ordinary tonight.

You lot should have been watching Springwatch, they had ospreys mobbing Herons and everything. And now Mrs Overall from Acorn Antiques is pretending to be the Mary Whitehouse experience. She's no Frank Skinner.
2008-05-28 22:38:59
Misses made you watch it did she?
2008-05-28 22:40:12
Nah, I've just finally broken the England friendly cycle. It was completely my choice.

Honest !
2008-05-28 22:40:27
think i might put my antiques roadshow dvd on and strap myself in for the wild ride.

it'll be better than this game.
2008-05-28 22:40:30
he is relying on his set piece ability

sadly, its England that often have to rely on it.
2008-05-28 22:41:28
End of season friendlies never are all that.
2008-05-28 22:43:18
I think Beckham was the physical player of his time, so not sure where you got that from and he certainly can head!

I agree with the other points, and Cartman's, just reminding you what Beckham has given to the national side ;o)

Personally he'd still get in my first 11.
2008-05-28 22:43:46
any friendly are never all that.

i prefer club friendlies anyway, at least you tend to feel a bigger association with the players. or you do your own little scouting of the players on trial/ new signings.
2008-05-28 22:43:55
Yes they do, which is a very sad state of affairs, though the build up to the 2nd goal was good, I'd like to see us play like that, quick incisive passes, midifelder breaking forward into gaps created by the strikers movement.
2008-05-28 22:46:26
I'd like to see anyone play like that!
2008-05-28 22:46:27
I used to feel that, but a team with only 13 players currently, who are going to ship in another 10 this pre-season, results in a squad that probably won't have much affiliation with the club I've supported since I was young.
2008-05-28 22:47:43
yeah but every team would like to play like that cartman.

to do that England would need to get together alot more and for a greater period of time. get some team cohesion together by getting them to train together, allow capello to drill his players and build up their understanding of his system.

showing up for half a week, travelling half the world to play a game and then buggering off back to the club achieves very little
2008-05-28 22:49:19
I can hope can't I.
2008-05-28 22:49:41
you say that norwich but i found it interesting on how the club would shape up.

mind you when leeds only had 1 player a couple of years ago these friendlies were a nightmare to know who was who! i think they just grabbed lads from the park.
