the only time i enjoyed it as much without england was in 1994
Of course, that was the last time England missed out on a tournament... ;-)
I think it's been refreshing having us not involved - no expectations, and it's been entertaining and enjoyable throughout. No lamenting poor-quality 1-0 wins and Beckham's baby toe being headline news gets my vote.
The annoying thing is I disagree with the notion Germany v Italy would be boring, as neither of them have looked remotely good defensively. Indeed, no side has really excelled in that department, and this happens to be England's strength (Russia away and Croatia at home aside, but our first-choice defence wasn't available for either). We could well have profited in our usual dull manner if we'd been involved...

:) good point
but i'm thinking of the competitions as a whole. each time we are knocked out the competition dies for me. i enjoy a good final, but i don't get excited watching e.g. france v italy

a euro competition without england is like flat champagne
Exactly. You don't plan to go up the pub with your mates because the Russia v Crotia match is on do you?
I've heard Howard Webb has been dropped from reffing any more matches in the tournament...a shame, seems the bigwigs still want pushing and shoving cheaters to be the highlight.
he didnt even do owt wrong jus more proof that the poles are crazy
seeing the fans though
thats what its about
from being top of the world to not now the croats now how it feels to be english

Not easily, but they won't care. The 35yo 'keeper in his first game in the competition is given the captain's armband for about 30 minutes, lets in a howler to put them out of the competition, makes the assist for the equaliser and then saves the final penalty.
That truly is a fairytale ending...i wonder if he plays against Germany now! (i know the other guy is still banned, but they have appealed).
The one thing i didn't like was the Turkish bloke celebrating with the finger to the mouth, "ssshh" gesture to the Croatia fans...i would have ran on and battered him.
