I have a few things i need to get off my chest:

> that ITV commentator guy is very irritating and talkes gibberish...he kept saying certain things were lucky...he needs a Collins to look up that word...Arshavin's cross for that last goal was impeccable.
> what is with all the goal celebration "ssshhh" gestures...why can't they just celebrate a brilliant and important goal properly without being stuck up bar stewards?
> can the referees just make up the rules as they go along or what? correct me if i am wrong, but can the referee book a player when the ball is not in play or not? whether the ball crossed the line in my eyes is irrelevant, if the referee judged it to be a yellow, which he did (it shouldn't have been) then he should have shown the red. And if it has nothing to do with the ball going out of play, and he simply decided to change his mind, is that allowed? The commentators were saying "well done referee for rescinding the card", if that's the case, why don't we see this more often?
> i don't think i've seen anyone strike the ball quite so well and consistently for a long time than that Russian midfield bloke.
> Arshavin is an amazing talent. Probably world class?
> Guus Hiddink should be knighted or something.

There.

he can even give a yellow to a guy sitting on the bench, or strolling down the tunnel :)

And yup, he can take back the card.

As for Arshavin, it's the same as Arda. Newcastle wants them = they start playing amazingly = they are no longer coming to NUFC.

Just as i thought, and if that is the case, i ask you; have you ever seen a yellow card shown and then rescinded like that before? If so, you could easily count the amount of times on one hand, even if you're well in to your 70's! (and yellow's were only brought in in the 80's weren't they?!). All that says to me is that referees are bigger bottles than i first thought!

Newcastle wants them = they start playing amazingly...

Didn't exactly work for Titus Bramble did it :P

Well thats 3 underdogs through out of 3.....who are the underdogs tomorrow??

What are the odds on a Turkey, Russia final?

At the start of the tournament laying a £1 on that would probably have made me a millionaire if it happened?
2008-06-21 23:47:30
Hm...never seen it actually. :)

Still, I've seen 2 times when ref gave a yellow to a player on the bench - to Baros on this EURO and to Mitar Peskovic on the Polish Cup final, one guy was running after the ball when it went to a throw in and Mitar simply pushed him and he has meet the ground...xD

And yeah...Bramble...:P

Probably closer to £10k in my opinion, but rich nonetheless.
2008-06-21 23:51:09
I've seen that a few times too, of course.

Another thing i wanted to add...some of the players are complete idiots for making mindless fouls to get booked and suspended from the next game. Don't you think you'd be a bit more careful considering a Euro semi final is pretty bloody special?

Adrenaline, schrenaline.
2008-06-21 23:54:52
Tell me more, I remember Nedved got a yellow right before the end of semifinal, and couldn't play in final with Milan.
2008-06-22 00:03:13
Yeah, and i've seen Roy Keane do that too and fight on to get his team in the final etc...but pointless ridiculous fouls...this is where you have to be selfish sometimes!
2008-06-22 00:06:33
Well done to the ref for listening to his assistant. He thought it was a yellow, the assistant told him it wasn't, he took it back. Nice and simple.

The commentators don't know what they're talking about going on about it going off for a goal kick first. That had nothing to do with anything.
2008-06-22 00:26:05
You think the assistant from all the way over the other side of the field told him it wasn't a foul? If that's the case, they're both ballsy, and fair play.
2008-06-22 00:34:39
Yup, I've seen him running and talking to the main ref. Was pretty nice, and what comes to my mind - if he can ask his linesman what happened, why can't he ask the technician ref[or how the guy is called] to check the tape and give him info?
2008-06-22 12:20:37
my mate had a 300,000/1 bet that russia would win, arshavin would be player of the tournament and pavlyuchenko would be top scorer those odds are now 143/1 or roundabout

that is because he actually came to Newcastle. The players we do land suddenly lose any ability they had upon arriving at the toon

he can even give a yellow to a guy sitting on the bench
Indeed; Baros was carded while on the bench.

Titus Bramble had ability? O.o he probably did, but as soon as George Burley told him that he started making all these errors and Newcastle signed him! He's never stopped making them since :D

And Spain go through on penalties for the first time in years! Gripping stuff.
